Generally agreed advantages of FES:
Better music
Some voice actors are better (like Yukari and Akihiko)
Better atmosphere
Cutscenes may look like shit, but they are also less sterile looking and more dynamic >_>
Operation Babe Hunt is a way better name lol

Generally agreed advantages of Reload:
Better gameplay
Some voice actors are better (like Fuuka)
Voice acted S Links
Some small extra content in the main game
The Answer is....a little better. (But not by much...)

Reload by far. I love the remixed music, I love the improved battles, I love the improved social links. They fixed so much, it's great.

If you are fine with just youtubing the Answer (you aren't missing anything by doing this), this. Especially if you mod in Manual Skill inheritence (https://gamebanana.com/mods/434312). I wonder if Reload will add her as DLC.

Otherwise, Reload is the definitive version, particularly when you can mod in the OG music.

FES. The atmosphere in the game is top notch, the remake really dropped the ball with this.

I also kind of actually like "commanding" your allies instead of directly telling them what to do. It obviously could be better, but it was an interesting take on the "4 dudes standing in a line" concept. I know you can technically do this in all Persona games made after 3 but they somehow made the AI even worse and its not really viable to use at all.

Reload imo pretty much made PS2 fes irrelevant.

Also I really liked the super meter/theargy(sp? however you spell it) thing.

Reload does clean up things to be more in line with the later entries kind of, if you haven't played FES, since Reload hardly added anything new beyond theurgies, Changed up Strega battles, made the tournament more of a pain, PC and minor tweaks to really justify the price tag, in comparison with SO2R. On top of screwing over none-English interfaces like in my case since it's just in moon runes if I don't change up the locale. Each time I play.

Especially in comparison with the low effort they pulled on the P3P port.

They did some tweaks that weren't present in the original English script when you compare the EN/JP, but I am more miffed about Yukari got screwed in EA, and how they downplayed a certain bit before the tournament.

Ken and Fuuka got better however in Reload to the point I can recommend them.

Tl;Dr In general, if you haven't played P3, wait for a 50% on the full package since it won't present the same as P5 if you didn't start back on PS2.

If you played FES or P3P they added too little in P3R for a full run's worth.

(Final boss was kind of neat though on hardest difficulty since you could slice through it in an epic fashion.)

Lol I have owned persona 3 fes on the PS2 near when it first released, and while I never actually finished this version of the game (I thought the original version of tartarus was pretty boring and I really did not like how you could not control your party members) I swear I would have never noticed huge music differences according to some fans if I did not see people online talking about it.

Yeah, here is a post I wrote about it a while ago. General spoilers ahead:

This is probably really obvious, but I just had the epiphany the that Persona 3 was highly influenced by Evangelion.

The main character starts the game as a loner closed off from the world like Shinji, he even use headphones to block himself out from the world.

Aigis is essentially a Rei like character, someone who isn't "truly" a human but learns to be one as the game goes on.

SEES is similar to NERV. An organization dedicated to eliminating a threat caused by a science experiment gone wrong, but the leader knows doing so will cause a catastrophe they plan to use for their own gain.

Ryoji is Kaworu, a being that appears after all the shadows/angels are defeated and gives the main characters some hope when they are at very low points. Bonus points for Reload adding in a piano scene that kind of evokes the 3rd rebuild movie.

The manipulative leaders of SEES and NERV unceremoniously die and never get to see their plan go through after Aigis and Rei stop obeying them. (Although Gendo succeeds in the TV show's ending, he doesn't even get to experience instrumentally in End of Evangelion).

After Nyx if sealed, the characters are standing around in space in a scene that looks visually similar to the infamous "congratulations" scene in Evangelion.

Thanatos looks similar to an EVA if you ignore the coffins that surround it. The first scene he appears in he even seems to go berserk.

I think the following are most likely stretches for influences but will mention them anyway. Yukari is similar to Asuka, Mitsuru to Misato, and Junpei to Toji.

The remixed tracks are one of my only complaints (they should have added in more things to do because there are points where you haven't nothing to do) but Reload is an overall better game. FES including The Answer is the only real advantage.

Also, "It's Going Down" is a fucking bop.
