Is ninkoro actually the saddest anime of all time? Every week just something casually devastating happens in it. I feel like this show is way too good for the premise.

Also hilarious that they had the shaft head tilt in the latest episode (since it's being made by shaft).

Rewatched s1 of Shangri La Frontier and started my first watch of s2. I do like shows like this, but the stakes always feel low, so some tension is lost. It's quite fun though and I'll never stop wishing for games to be this awesome.

On the gaming side, I've been playing Super Mario RPG. I played it emulated ages ago, but never beat it. Think I got stuck, so it'll be nice to finish it.

i enjoy how magilumiere makes no attempt to even try to explain how any of this works

somehow computers give girls magical girl powers, complete with them needing to spout computer functions to use the powers, and they suck the demons into usb flash drives, there isn't even any explanation for what they do with the demons after they're sucked up or what happens in them in general

and not a single attempt to try to even give a half assed explanation, and that's honestly a breath of fresh air

I can't actually remember who I used in MGQ paradox. Outside of the true monstrosities I refuse to use that cause incontinence and vore I probably just chose for gameplay reason.

Aluranes are too plant for me though.

Rewatched haikyuu. I'd seen all of it except the most recent movie. Not that I was spoiled here but I think it's pretty lame of them to name the 3rd season and the movie "karasuno vs _____". Completely spoils who beats who in the previous season and it's very easy to accidentally see the title before you've even started watching.

Regardless, the show is GOATed. Best sports anime of all time IMO. It has no weaknesses. The weakest part of the show is the story which is merely solid and well told. Great characters even on opposing teams, great animation, great soundtrack, great pacing, great directing, and no big awful thing to drag it down.

Supposedly the latest movie and one more were going to end everything but they recently removed final from everything on their website about the movies so it's presumed there will be more somehow. Although, I feel like all this information kinda spoils what must happen in the upcoming movie if there was ever a time when it could have been final. Like, either they lose, or somehow semis and finals is just brushed over, both of which would be a pretty shit place to end the series, especially with the 1st place school and favorites still in and on the other side of the tournament block.

Something that seemed really odd when watching this show is that the only official matches any of these teams play are 2 single elim yearly tournaments. Like wtf. Not a league, not 5+ tournaments a year, not even double elim. Almost half the teams legit only play 2 games a year.

I'd gotten stuck in SMRPG, but I'm unstuck now. I think I've finally gotten beyond where I'd stopped or gotten stuck before when I played it on an emulator a billion years ago.

For watching I finished Shangri La Frontier s2, so I'm not sure what to watch. Been on a bit of a movie kick lately. Watched all 5 Purge movies, turns out I'd seen 4 already, just not the latest one. I dunno why I keep watching them, they're never good. Then I watched all 5 of the Bronson Death Wish movies. Did a rewatch of Falling Down last night. I remember being more sympathetic towards the main character the last time I watched it.

I'm playing Persona 5. The forced time constraints are stupid.

It doesn't take 902 years to return a book to a library or to buy something from a vending machine.

Yeah, I hate time constraints, even if they're super generous. Just gives me anxiety and mars the whole experience. A timed mission here and there can be fine though.

I meant more in this way. Forcing you to continue the story instead of letting you stop somewhere that would literally take like 10 seconds. It's bad gameplay mechanics.

It'd be more accurate to say it's bad narrative design. Gameplay-wise, it's a matter of resource optimization, and there's nothing wrong with that. It's just that the narrative justification clearly doesn't line up with the resource cost.

oh yeah, I remember around the time of season 1 there was talk of continued work on the manga. the LN had stalled out years ago and I don't think there would have been quite enough content for a second season

Back to Trails in the Sky to try and get that playthrough done before the remake releases.

Nioh 3 announced!!! I thought they said they were done with Nioh after 2. Happy they changed their mind. I did enjoy wo long and rise of the ronin, but they are both a step behind Nioh for me. Can't wait for it to release (early 2026) and me beat the first 2 difficulties and be bummed we don't have the harder ones or the DLC areas that will be way better than base game.

Think I'll go see if I can grab a Switch 2 today. Still slightly on the fence, but have another reason to go to that part of town, so even if I don't, it shouldn't be a total loss.

I'm feeling roughly like I did with the Switch 1, in that I don't feel a huge drive to get one right away, but I do want Mario Kart, I'll definitely be getting one within the next year or so, and there won't be a price drop or any other significant difference between a launch system and one I get later, so I figure I might as well go for it sooner than later. I don't expect to be able to find one today, though, so I'm not going to bother going out to try. I'll just check periodically over the new few weeks/months or order one if I get the email from Nintendo before I find one in-store.

I won't be too broken up if I can't find one today. DK doesn't come out until next month anyway.

Yeah, at this point I'm mostly in the position of "I'll be annoyed if I waste the trip out" more so than being disappointed. Where I don't expect success, I don't think it's worth trying today.

They had plenty, but I decided to skip it. I'll at least wait until DK is out and maybe I'll even wait for a special edition version. I've never had one and it'd be nice to get one.

I got the OoT special edition of the 3DS, and that was kind of nifty, even if I didn't even play OoT 3D until like 7-8 years later. The MK bundle is enough of a special edition for me in this case, though.

it's definitely a side game compared to 4 with much simpler farming that you can basically mostly automate, but it's got actually good combat, the performance on PC is good, the designs are good, the zones are pretty big and pretty, and it just doesn't feel half baked like 5 was

it's leaning pretty heavily into the village aspect which feels compelling so far. difficulty's still kind of nonexistent on hard outside of the occasional super overlevelled guys

That's good. 5 really just felt like somebody made a cheap 3D knockoff of 4, lifting most of the mechanics wholesale and just slapping some new characters and a new story in there. I didn't dislike it, but I also stopped playing like an in-game week after finishing the main story because I felt like I'd already solved the farming optimizations and would just be going through the motions to execute those solutions (namely, buy a bunch of crystals and use them to max out the dragon fields), and none of the characters hooked me well enough to want to develop relationships with them. Given that the main story ended in the first week of Summer 1 for me because the pacing was a bit of a mess, that wasn't exactly ideal.

Eh, I kind of expect that from RF. As much as I enjoyed min-maxing 4's crafting system, there wasn't exactly much point in doing so because the only actual challenge was boosting enemy levels and running the labyrinth. It's not a series I expect particularly challenging combat from.

Kind of off topic, but a Daiso store opened up last week really close to my home. I hadn't heard of it before; it's kind of like Five Below; random low priced electronics, home goods, snacks, etc., but it's all imported from Japan. I tried some red bean jam bread the other day and holy crap it was awesome. I could get addicted to those.

I think we've got one here, but I always forget to go check it out.

Any relation to Miniso? We've got those here in Canada, and it sounds like they're pretty similar.

It's possible, especially with those names; there's one of those in my shopping mall too.

Decided to rewatch s1 of Solo Leveling, so I can watch s2.

On the game side, I beat Super Mario RPG. It said something about there being post game content, but honestly, I'm not really interested, so I put the first Mario and Rabbids game back in, so I can actually beat it this time. I got the second one for $20 last week, so that gave me some motivation to complete the first.

I also got FE Three Hopes waiting for me whenever I feel like playing it. Still trying to find Hyrule Warriors for a decent price, as well as the other Zelda Warriors game and SS and LA, since I'm missing them too. Is Captain Toad Treasure Tracker worth picking up?

Just finished the DLC for lies of P. Great game and great DLC. I look forward to their next game. People were hyping up how overpowered the final DLC boss was, so when I beat it I was expecting another phase. Was really surprised to see the credits pop up.

To date I've still only been through the first half of the game, but it was a pretty fun time. It's not particularly long, though (like 5-10 hours), so depending on how cheaply you can get it and how closely you tie length to value, you might not consider it worthwhile.

(objectively the best one is probably Warriors Orochi 3/4 or DW:O, but man its my favorite)

I've been keeping my eye out for the two Zelda warriors games, but haven't seen them for a good price yet. Have like 5 more Switch games I want to definitely get for my collection and then if I can get the pokemon games I'm missing for a decent price, I'll grab those as well.

I currently have a big itch to play Cyberpunk 2077, so as soon as I see the ultimate edition get a decent sale on xbox I'll get that. I'm currently playing the first Mario and Rabbids and it's been more fun than I remembered, so that's been nice. Have the sequel to play, but not going to rush through the first.

played 3 and it was great, even though the music was gutted in NA. still wish it focused more on the battlefield aspect tho, that's the part I like most about musous

Yeah I really wish they'd make a game somewhere between mount & blade and a warriors game. I want peons to be actual threats so that the only strategy for every mission is not hurl myself into the biggest cluster of enemies and officers I can with no regards to allied soldiers or enemy peons.

Like even in origins, fighting Lu Bu by himself vs fighting Lu Bu surrounded by 10,000 peons, the second is WAY easier cause they are just walking health/musou potions, and thats not how that should be IMO.

Origins did probably did peons better than any other musou with the formation charges making large forces legitimately threatening... at first, anyways. Eventually you get enough juice and game sense that formation charges are just free finishers. Still better than the older musou games where peons were huge threats because they poked so damn hard and you had no mobility, I guess

if mount and blade's army controls were a little more intuitive I would have gotten a lot more mileage out of it than the couple hundred hours I have already

the main thing I want is to feel like I'm playing part of an army. three hopes at least makes the AI competent enough to face off evenly with enemies (and eat through them with type advantages) and lets you order them around on the battlefield

Mount and Blade needs a real competitor so bad. I fuckin hate the company running it, they take forever to do nothing. Everything that isn't combat is so half baked but the concept of the game is so fun it's still enjoyable for hundreds of hours. Even in battle though, warriors nails the feeling I want from a battle. Important generals making charges, stratagems going off as the commanders and strategists try to out maneuver and trick each other, and yet still room for one strong player to turn the tide and flow of battle. Mount and blade it's like a bunch of goons just running into each other where the best strategy is either full cav charge or put archers on a hill and defend them and thats always the best option and it always works. There's zero battlefield objects and the effects of morale and commanders are virtually nothing. Hell, I often don't even realize I've killed an enemy officer.

On the other hand, if I kill 20 dudes in a mount and blade battle, I'm a frickin hero. Taking down 100 is a herculean feat they'd write songs about. Meanwhile in origins I casually do my true musou finisher and kill 3500 people in one swing.

My dream is something like Nioh ground combat, dynasty warriors scale and battle flow, mount and blade mounted combat and peon effectiveness and troop recruitment/management.

If only someone would give me like 100 million dollars so I could make it.
