Because you put it in something that is vaguely aesthetically pleasing and is thus suitable to put on a dining table.

Kitchen Salt vs (dining) table salt.
Just that.

It's like the difference between table dogs and sea dogs. Table dogs are fancy bitches that eat at the table.

Because 'salt' can refer to any one of many, many chemical compounds only one of which is what we commonly refer to as salt. So to differentiate it that one is sometimes referred to as table salt.

Crazy that salt is considered appropriate for the dining table. It was always wild to me, the idea of adding salt to already cooked food to eat. Even before my dad told me to never use salt (the white death as it's called, has killed more black people than even police) I would look at it and think why would I want this.

Of course I had a bad experience as a kid mixing up salt and sugar so that's part of it. Also I have more of a sweet tooth (a different vice) so I never cared for saltiness.

It used to be called the white gold, because it was needed to preserve the food over winter and it was expensive as hell because you had to travel very far to get some.
Being able to add salt to your normal daily food was seen as extremely luxury.

Because it comes from below the water table, and over time "water table salt" was colloqually shortened to just "table salt,"

Table salt has undergone the process of pasteurization which kills harmful bacteria by burying it in a pasteur.

Raw salt on the other hand is incredibly dangerous to consume unless cooked a high temperatures.

WRONG. Pasteurization causes vaccines. You should only be eating RAW salt.
