This is not unusual in fact I'd wager that most billionaires probably have way more in debt.

For a working class person debt is something to overcome, but for a billionaire debt is an instrument to increase their wealth and power.

A lot, if not most wealthy people are just eternally in debt. This isn't a sign of failure, but rather their ability to utilize debt for growth. It's not the same debt, either. Just an ever-changing debt from loan to loan.

The thing is, there are differences between total lack of money, versus having money tied up in investments and property. Most of the "debt" that millionaires or massive corporations like Amazon are running is an entirely different sort of debt from the guy with student loan payments who can barely pay off his credit card each month.

There's also a vested interest in faking debt, because if you can show on paper that you didn't turn a profit in a given year, you can transform those losses into tax breaks and incentives.

Basically, money management at higher levels is like watching a magician break the laws of physics.

I'm kind of surprised that GameFAQs doesn't seem to have ever done a poll on savings/debt. It seems like the kind of demographics question they like for selling all our data to advertisers.

oh this is probably election related

so, this is not unusual. after trumps 2020 campaign, they raised around 1.1b and ended up about 12m in debt afterwards, biden raised around 1b, and was $0 in debt.

in 2016, clinton raised around 570m, with a debt of only a few hundred. conversely, trump raised around 433m with a debt of $0.

breaking the winner has no debts trend in 2024, trump raised around 1.1b, with a debt of 2.8m.

in other words, this is not some gotcha like you thought it was, and we all know you absolutely thought it was.

You've got it mixed up, it's Trump that's terrible with finances. At the rip age of 18 he was given $1 million by daddy, and in less than a year needed to be bailed out of debt. That would continue until his father was dead and then he had to turn to banks for loans. Eventually he was banned from all US banks (and still is, imagine that, a US president who is not allowed in any US banks!) and had to turn to European ones.

He even managed to bankrupt multiple casinos. It really highlights how bad he is with money since casinos are rigged to make money.
