Has Trump actually come out with actual policy regarding these tariffs other than that they might exist?

The dude is not in office yet so im seriously doubting that a company made this decision in literally one day based off currently non-existent tariffs

It's not always that simple. When Trump did tariffs on China in his first term, Cisco had to raise prices on their network gear. If a company has all Cisco products on their network infrastructure, it's not just a matter of "OK let's just use something else."

There is an expected life cycle for networking equipment, typically at least 5 years. Some companies hold onto network equipment for 10+ years. If you have 8 switches in a stack, but one of them goes bad outside of warranty, then you have to buy another Cisco switch to replace that one switch. The company isn't going to spend what it would take to replace the entire stack with another vendor.

Then there's the matter of the knowledge level of the network admin/network engineer. There are other network vendors, but then the company has to pay to train their network team on other vendors. And even after that training, there will be a learning curve. That means slower mean time to resolution when a problem happens or the company has to pay for a resident engineer from the other networking vendor to have expertise where the current network team is lacking.

If they know there will be blanket tariffs, the company very well could plan in advance. What hasn't been decided is the percentage, as far as we know.

I read somewhere that Trump doesn't actually know what a tariff is, and people try to explain it to him but alas. I haven't found a quote yet, but I am going to look to see if I can find one where he either is an idiot or lies about what a tariff is and what it does.

This doesn't actually change anything because American exports become subjected to retaliatory tariffs. So now foreign countries won't buy our exports and to make up for the lost profits they have to raise the price to Americans.

Here's things I have full confidence he will do (no particular order):

1. Shutter the DoE and EPA
2. Have RFK Jr gut the FDA and CDC
3. Tariffs on at least some things
4. Deport Palestinian refugees
5. Sign a national abortion and gender affirming care banning bill if one of them actually passes both houses
6. Fire and replace basically everyone in the DoJ and the Chiefs of Staff
7. Block a variety of VISAs from being issued
8. Ramp up weapons delivery to Israel
9. No taxes on tips
10. Tax cuts to big business

These are not questions to me. He will do these things with certainty in the most thorough way possible of his ability.

Things I have confidence he will try but be at least a little ineffective at:

1. Mass deportation, including legal immigrants like the Haitian community
2. Restart border wall construction
3. Repeal ACA
4. Repeal section 230
5. Denaturalization of immigrant citizens

Things I think he won't even try:

1. No taxes on overtime
2. Ending the War in Ukraine
3. Deploying the military on Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi
4. Parts of project 2025 that do not benefit him personally.

This is a real story that totally happened.

Our populace is fucked if Trump can go word salad on economics when asked about it and doesn't know the fundamental drawbacks of his tariff plan(or is lying), and they never see it. They go "Biden economy bad. Trump economy good because rich guy"

Top 1 or 2 issues this election were the economy. And he can't even describe his policies whereas Kamala's were checked by economists and they said they were good.

At this point all I can do is just point it out everywhere I can, because it's criminal people don't know this

The majority of voters don't seem to consider cause and effect. They just think, "Groceries are more expensive, damn that [residing President]!" So now, instead of raising prices based on reports of rising inflation they'll raise prices based on a proposed tariff.

Yeah. The cost of eggs ain't shit compared to how hard Tariffs will hit y'all.

I suppose tariffs would be used to wean dependence off of Chinese goods since that route is now more expensive, but that would need to be coupled with an actual large scale tangible investment in US manufacturing so we can replace it with eventually cheaper US goods made in US factories with US workers.

But none of that matters because the tariff comes first, and what comes after does not.

If your prediction is correct, only the tariffs will affect me, while the ACA might affect my mom and sister if it affects SSI and Medicare/Medicaid. The parts of Project 2025 will depend. Hopefully we can get some Dems in there before the GOP can enact all of Project 2025.

If you are a larger company, you have to make projections based on what you know. What you know now and what you can store now to use later is more important than finding out just what kind of tariffs Trump means and what it will mean for their goods moving forward.
