WingsOfGood posted... I know a girl who struggled in debt and would fly across the country for concert she likedOh, I don't doubt it. But having been to resorts (my ex father in law is super rich), the majority of the people there are NOT living paycheck to paycheck. Yes, some people go to resorts and just get into further debt, but that is the minority of people at resorts. --- Currently playing - The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom ... Copied to Clipboard!

I mean while there's a very strong correlation between "living paycheck to paycheck" and poor you can be "living paycheck to paycheck" while not being poor. I remember George Orwell mentioning that junk food is the cheapest form of leisure available to the working class. A trip to Baskin Robbins is a whole lot cheaper and less time consuming than a trip to the beach. from George Orwell's "In Defence of English Cooking" Would it not be better if [an unemployed person] spent more money on wholesome things like oranges and wholemeal bread . . . ? Yes, it would, but the point is that no ordinary human being is ever going to do such a thing. The ordinary human being would sooner starve than live on brown bread and raw carrots. And the peculiar evil is this, that the less money you have, the less inclined you feel to spend it on wholesome food. A millionaire may enjoy breakfasting off orange juice and Ryvita biscuits; an unemployed man doesnt. . . . When you are unemployed, which is to say when you are underfed, harassed, bored, and miserable, you dont want to eat dull wholesome food. You want something a little bit tasty. There is always some cheaply pleasant thing to tempt you. --- "But who prays for Satan? Who, in eighteen centuries, has had the common humanity to pray for the one sinner that needed it most?" -Mark Twain ... Copied to Clipboard!
