Still ongoing but sounds like the worst has been avoided.

The hard right into Sarasota means Tampa Bay wasn't as devestating as expected. Obviously still horrific, 10+ foot storm surges, but could have been worse if the eye hadn't diverted away at the last second. Fell to a 2 almost 2 hours ago, likely not going to see as major a hit in Orlando as expected due to the mourse southward landing point.

Yes and yes. On the first point if it wasnt the case then they wouldnt even be swing states as polling error can mean a 4-6% difference in the margin. That would be the equivalent of say Minnesota. On the second yeah Democrats have always been less certain to vote than Republicans and Harris has run a much better campaign, its expected. If every Democrat voted the Republicans would never win.

So yeah, it isn't that the democrats became radical, it's that as a society we are LESS terrible when it comes to racism and bigotry and so we are much better at repudiating gross ideas.

Also like, from 2004 to 2017 Democrats went from a median of 4 to 2 and Republicans went from a median of 5 to about 7. There is barely any difference in their rate of change over the last 13 years. The only kind of interesting difference is that Democrats seem to have become more ideologically similar while Republicans seem to have become more ideologically diverse. But that has happened because the rightmost opinions have become more common, not an overall widening. The modal Republican value went from 5 to 8 in that time while the mode for Democrats has gone from 3 to 2 in other words this is actually showing a pretty significant rightwards shift for Musks guys. He cant even interpret this simple data.

I think they are just looking at the median lines and taking that to mean "republicans went from a 6 to a 6.5, we stayed the same! Democrats went from a 5 to a 2, they are radicalized!"

The 2016 zeitgeist is ending. If it ends, the echo of the casual revolution of 2007 (2007-2015) will be gone, and the 2016 to 2024 era will be the new echo.

I am finally seeing people say they are less interested with social media consumption. If i recall also around the start of this year there were a fair amount of large subscriber youtubers making retirement/indefinite hiatus videos, and also general backlash to prominent influencers pushing products everywhere.

I think this bodes well for Harris since Trump is the manifestation of this 2016 period. Shes slipping in the polls right now sadly, but I do think she needs to keep pushing this home stretch by showcasing positivity and fun and fuck social media.

a is probably a true statement, but it disregards that government is still necessary because some things are better to be done inefficiently than not at all.

b is absolutely awful (imo). Unregulated business/capitalism is incredibly anti-worker and results in worse average outcomes for the country as a whole.

n is practically just a restatement of b

r is similar to a in that it's probably true that protecting the environment has an economic cost, but its one we should be willing to pay.

But I guess if you are staunchly pro-business (and by association, anti-worker) then you just have to throw in some casual disregard for poor people, and minorities and boom, you get your 6+ easily and possibly even all 10 -_-

Right, it's obvious 2 extremes on a single linear scale is not going to capture the full nuance of reality. But you can still answer the survey.

I think the core purpose of these questions is finding which side of the overton window you reside. Everyone who knows basic history and economics agrees for a fact that government spending (for the countries most of us live in) is 90%+ wasteful and harmful crony-capitalism. But if you're liberal, you HAVE to say "but what about the libraries???" and if you're conservative, you HAVE to say "libraries are teaching Guatemalan toddlers to be trans!!!", even though libraries are a rounding error in the budget and everyone agrees it's cool for government to fund them.

So for a survey trying to indirectly figure out how people self-assess their liberal/conservative position, it seems pretty well designed.
