Hollow Knight. I think I could make it through by keeping my death count under a hundred and still walk away with $900K (I think it's fair to say that 'beating' the game ends with killing Radiance and none of the particularly-sadistic side content).

Ghosts 'n Goblins NES.

Shouldn't be that bad.

Original Ninja Gaiden on NES. I had that game absolutely mastered in the early 90s (it came out in 89 in the US) but 6-2 is always tricky. Id still get a lot of money. Probably all of it. Just glad I didnt go with BattleToads. I went with something I thought was challenging and I really truly loved.

If it's beating the first final boss, shouldn't be too bad.

True Final (for reals) Boss would be tougher due to unlock requirements, but Id eventually get it down. Would probably still be in the 900k range.

Ninja Gaiden is the game I thought of. Im going into the red.

Elden Ring. I might lose a good bit, but if I can grind, use summons, and not have to do the DLC I can probably win some money.

Celeste came to mind. Not the hardest I know, but the first that came to mind.

Tbh I could probably get through Chapter 8 with 100 deaths on a good day, and Farewell with an additional 100 from what I remember of my PBs. If I were to do it right here right now, having not touched it in a good long time ... yeah I'd be lucky to get anything.

Currently playing Order of Ecclesia, so It's been on my mind. No cheats needed. I'd probably wind up with tons of money.

I thought of Blaster Master. It depends on if glitches count as cheats, as there's certain bosses I've only ever beaten with glitches.

If glitches are allowed, I'm getting well over 900,000. Definitely losing some of it though. If glitches aren't allowed, I have no idea if I'm even getting any money.

The problem I had is that all the games that I thought of as hard are also games I've played so much that I don't actually find difficult anymore. I thought of Hollow Knight because of AbsRad, ER and Wo Long because other people think they're hard, and then Nioh 2 before I remembered that it's actually easier than Nioh 1.

Beating HK would be pretty easy after clearing P5 twice. I wouldn't even have to touch any of the fights that still give me trouble because they're all DLC. And ER would be a easy sweep because with money on the line I'd just use every advantage available instead of my normal minor challenge runs. I guess Nioh 2 on a fresh file could do some work on me, I'm really used to having my stronger skills and set ups and being carried by those. And WoLong, well, I've played the shit out of it, even when I go months without playing it I still have to limit myself to not just sweep everything in the main game.

So yeah, I'm probably taking close to a million.

2 games crossed my mind: Dark Souls, would probably walk away with 995,000 on a bad run

Ninja Gaiden 2 (the PS3 one). While not a cheat, would I be allowed to do the on-land UT spam? if so, I'd probably walk away with 850-900k. If not, I dunno, probably a lot less.

Sekiro. Its been a long time since I played it so Im sure Id be rusty, but Im confident I could beat it while below 100 deaths.

My other favorite NES game I mastered in the early 90s. I got Ninja Gaiden and this within about 4 months of each other. Got Blaster Master in November of 88 and Ninja Gaiden in March of 89. A few months later in June of 89 I got TMNT.

Those 3 games took me about 2 years to master the three of them. Right at the end of junior high and going into high school.

Blaster Master remains one of my favorite games of all time. A masterpiece.

Zelda 2 ain't so bad once you get past death mountain

Yeah thats the only game I didnt beat legit growing up. I played it later on PC with an emulator and save states. But I never enjoyed the game that much to keep attempting it when I had it on original hardware. So its definitely hard, but a lot of it was I didnt love the game.

Thought of SMT Nocturne. Shouldn't be that many deaths unless the RNG screws me over a bunch in random battles.

Also, always preferred Magic with Demifiend until Late game where I switched to an almost full physical build in preparation for Lucifer. Physical skills removing HP from the guy who if they get KOed = game over always seemed like a bad idea to me.

I picked Sifu, which isn't too bad because I've already beaten it with only two deaths. But that game is hard af

Cuphead came to mind for me.

I have 200%ed the game (did everything on normal and hard mode) and completed the DLC for it. Its been a long time since I played but, If I can go through just normal mode and can skip the DLC, I imagine I could go through the game and still have a good chunk of money waiting for me at the end. I don't think I'm dying anywhere close to 1,000 times.

There is an easy mode... otherwise, I wouldn't have made it past the cantina.

Also, there is a place where you can spawn lives... you can have 98 lives (have to die to move on).

Super Meat Boy. I end up owing million!

I'd gladly beat Xenogears again for a cool million.

I can finish Touhou 6 with a few deaths so I'll just play on easy mode and won't even have to deal with stage 6 and take 995k but likely more.

I thought of the first Discworld game, so I'm laughing - it doesn't have death or game-over! The puzzles are hard, but they can't end the game, just keep you from progressing.

Last Battle on Genesis destroyed my confidence in gaming as a kid.

I have won a few runs (both normal and finishing Hell) so I think I can get some money out of it. At least it's short.
