I have to say I never thought Barret would get this deep, this year in particular - it's mostly luck he didn't go out at 38th. Looking back to last years 25th anniversary tournament, both Barret and Yuna were the underdog, unseeded characters to make deep runs in the contest, with Barret making it to the semifinals, and Yuna to the quarterfinals. Both of them lost to Cloud who ended up losing in the finals. Aerith got booted in the second round in a close battle against Rikku. And Torgal, well, there was no Torgal in the contest of course. Barret and Yuna seemed to carry some momentum from that contest, though in reality it probably has little to do with the results this year. --- Don't mind me. I'm just here for the contest. ...
