Not sure if this even applies much to modern computers.

Hard drives, yes. But, not only is it not beneficial, but it is just plain harmful to do it to solid state drives.

I defragmented my (mechanical) hard drive several months ago. When I did that, I stopped getting annoying saving errors in Photoshop.

The PS4 let you do it through a semi-hidden menu, would actually speed up loading times on most games.

But I can't remember the last time I defrag'd a computer.

It's a hard drive.

If it's an old fashioned mechanical spinning drive, then yeah you can defrag it.

As others have said already though, it's a bad idea for an SSD.

You can just set Windows to automatically defrag your mechanical drives and not care anymore.

Spinny hard drive platters, yes. If you use a fragmenting file system.

Ssd, more negatives than positives. Ssd can wear out with too much unnecessary rewriting.

My last computer to run on a HDD (as opposed to a SSD) never had Windows recommend to defrag it over all the years I had it, and from my understanding it's because modern systems tend to do a better job at not letting drives get too "fragmented" in the first place.

Second all of this info. In the windows 95/xp days I used to make it a point to defrag the hdd regularly. No need to worry about it on modern operating systems.

Disk cleanup is great for reclaiming space on your C: cause Windows is still terrible about cleaning up temp and log files.

Yeah I use Disk Cleanup now and again. Also system restore, at least on my CPU, does not actually work when you try to use it.
