Will white women vote for Kamala Harris? History says its unlikely

Only twice since 1950 have a majority of white women voted for a Democratic presidential candidate Lyndon Johnson and Bill Clinton. They didnt support Barack Obama in his two historic terms as the nations first Black president. And they didnt help elect Hillary Rodham Clinton as the nations first woman president.

Instead, they supported Trump over the former secretary of state 47% to 45%, according to Pew Research. Four years later, Trumps share of white women voters increased to 53% in his unsuccessful reelection bid against President Joe Biden.

LBJ and Clinton.

That's kinda crazy.

Interesting. I would have expected them to vote for her --- especially over Trump.

Either way, as long as the people who say they like Harris actually show up and vote for Harris, then she is going to win.

Even if they do break for Harris, it won't be because of Harris, but because of what Trump and Republicans have done to women's rights.

It's still astonishing that they consistently vote against Democrats. Like why did they not break for Gore over Bush? Or even Biden.

I'm just curious as to what it is about Dem policy that they don't like. Is it inclusiveness? Dem policies have been shown to be historically better for all Americans than Republican policies. They've also shown they can manage the economy better, jobs better, and so on. Yet for whatever reason, women just constantly flock to the Republican party. And I feel like this needs to really be explored.

What is it about the Democratic Party that white women simply don't jive with. If it was 50:50, it'd be one thing, but two US Presidents getting the backing of white women, compared to every other election since 1950, that's a ridiculous turnout against the party.

While the Republican power structure will never put Women on top, they will protect and defend the white male birthing machine (aka white women). If a white woman is threatened by a scary brown other every republican in the country will happily burn down that brown persons whole neighborhood.

white women lose their normal rights under republicans but maintain their status as protected Karens

White women, historically, are one of the biggest barriers of any sort of progressive ideal.

hell, they were largely against womens suffrage.

a lot of it goes back to the weird Christian nuclear family model where the man is in charge and makes the decisions for the household, but a lot of it is also (consciously or unconsciously) around giving black people basic human rights.

Women have been historically disenfranchised, and at the lowest totem of social power. White women, though, werent the lowest. Start giving other people rights and opportunities and suddenly those footholds white women clawed for disintegrate because the floor got raised.

The issue isn't taxes, it's stolen wages. CEO Wages have risen like 400% in the time it's taken the average workers wages to rise about, I think it was, around 8% or something since the 1970s. All while companies have mandated less workers to do more work and be even more productive as well as the price of commodities being out of control right now (because companies want to make the same money the made during COVID because stock number go up).

From my experience...and this is just my personal experience...I find that white women are overly prone to being misled by racist fearmongering narratives. They worry that Blacks and Hispanics are coming into their neighborhoods and making them less safe, which makes them learn Republican, since Republicans are really good at using those types of dog whistles.

A lot of the white women being "karens" is rooted in racism and entitlement, and the Republican platform enables and feeds that racism and entitlement by blaming it on immigrants.

I mean again, it's Forbes. So who do we trust, Bernie Sanders and Forbes, who are opposite sides of the political spectrum, or this guy on Twitter, who's probably got credentials, but less media sway due to not being a sitting US Senator or a major money publication.

https://www.forbes.com/advisor/banking/living-paycheck-to-paycheck-statistics-2024/

Now I will say, using 'average' is kind of misleading, when the top like .1% have like 90% of all the money.

The top 1% of Americans also control more wealth than the entire middle class, including 26.5% of all household wealth in mid-2023.

As of February 2024, the average American household had a wealth of $1.09 million, while the average household in the top 0.1% had a wealth of over $1.52 billion. This is based on the value of all assets owned, minus debt and other liabilities

As of July 2024, the roughly 800 billionaires in the United States own 3.8% of the country's wealth, while the bottom half of American families own only 2.5%. In late 2022, billionaires had more wealth than the bottom half of US households, with $4.5 trillion compared to $4.1 trillion. The top 1% of the population also held $43.45 trillion in wealth

I'm not a math expert, but it's quite clear the ultra rich could be skewing these 'average' stats quite a bit, when the .1% is worth thousands of times more than the average citizen.

800 people own 50% more of the countries wealth than 170 million Americans combined.

And I'd also add that living paycheck to paycheck means that a simply emergency could end up leaving someone homeless.

According to various surveys, between 34% and 78% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck, meaning they have little to no money left over for savings after paying their monthly expenses:
Bankrate: 34% of workers say they live paycheck to paycheck, and 59% are uncomfortable with their emergency savings.
MarketWatch: 66.2% of Americans say they live paycheck to paycheck, and 92.1% of those who consider themselves "broke" say the same. Women are more likely to report living paycheck to paycheck than men, and a high percentage of top earners also say they fall into this category.
LendingClub Bank: 61% of American consumers live paycheck to paycheck.

Indeed. We don't provide enough basic needs. I would hope that, in the wealthiest country in the world, that no individual should go without healthcare, housing, food, and clean water, at the *bare minimum*, regardless of your job situation. But something like a flat tire could lead to an eviction which could leave someone without all four of those things, and that's why life in America is so unfair. All you need is some misfortune and you can find yourself homeless or on death's door. God forbid you lose your job and get sick.

A 2023 survey conducted by Payroll.org highlighted that 78% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck, a 6% increase from the previous year. In other words, more than three-quarters of Americans struggle to save or invest after paying for their monthly expenses.

Similarly, a 2023 Forbes Advisor survey revealed that nearly 70% of respondents either identified as living paycheck to paycheck (40%) oreven more concerningreported that their income doesnt even cover their standard expenses (29%).

I mean, I'd rather trust data, that is tracked continously and taken by the federal govt, than a "Payroll.org" poll.

All the data by that guy is based on fed reserve data. He lists the sources in the second tweet

Note that I am NOT saying people do not live paycheck to paycheck or that we shouldn't provide more resources. I'm saying that I don't believe those 60+% numbers because based on data we have, the median person does not seem to be living paycheck to paycheck.
