Bill Clinton said something like this tonight. Since 1989, there has been 52 million jobs created. Democrats created 51 million, Republicans created 1 million.

It looks like he wasnt too far off apparently. Its actually insane if true. I need to look more into it for full confirmation but it seems accurate on the surface.

It would more or less conform with what I've seen in my life. Conservatives are really good at cutting taxes and starting wars and nothing else.

Democrats actually govern by doing infrastructure and negotiating or using tax credits to achieve specific goals rather than blanket tax cuts which disproportionately help the ultra-wealthy.

Recession, 10 of the last 11 recessions since 1953 were under a republican president.

They said since the end of the Cold War so I assumed that. This person has a graph as far back as 1977 so I dont know.

Even so, that is a weird thing to say. That was a total of 25 years. Thats plenty long.

Not sure how Reagan would skew it but it would probably not give him the massive 50 to 1 number he could get this way. Could also be a target at their core demographic audience as someone born in 1989 would be 35 and the older you are the more likely you seem to turn conservative.

This is why I always say republicans are the party of rich people to keep rich people rich and protect rich people's interests. Everything else they pretend to stand for is just to rile people up to get enough votes to stay in power

Was gonna mention this too.

The proganda of Republicans = good for the economy has to be one of their strongest lies in history. Because so many people believe it, despite evidence of the contrary on almost every economic level shows that they are much, much worse.

Not sure if "maybe Republicans did something good nearly half a century ago" would count as a win even if true.

The idea that the PotUS is creating jobs is right around the same mentality as the PotUS changing the price of gas. Its complicated.

Early 80s was one of the worst recessions in American history and is basically when American manufacturing started getting shut down and shipped overseas. And there was the 1987 market crash.

When your average Republican says or thinks the economy, theyre not talking the academic definition. Theyre thinking how far their dollar goes and how much theyre struggling to stay afloat. That was easier pre-COVID than post-COVID. It has nothing to do with Biden and everything to do with COVID and the response to it. But everyone I know was financially better off before than after, which puts it in the Trump (and Obama) timeframe.

If you ask your Father to describe what he means by the economy, Im sure youll find this to be the case. Its just a laypersons perspective, and Republicans frequently are laypeople who listen to other laypeople.

It really makes you wonder where this country would be if we didn't have a Republican party but Democrats vs Progressive party, people who disagree but both have the interests of the country rather than the interests of the wealthy but man, Republican legit fuck up our lives every time they get in power, the culture war issues, the very term culture war is because of Republicans

It's most likely because they always inherit a great economy and claim it as their own doing, and it works with their voterbase. Trump even realized that Democrats were better for the economy decades ago (his own words) before he switched parties.

There was a quasi-shift from the Cold War economy to what we have today. A so called "Peace Dividend" was supposed to be invested in things like hi-tech, social programs and education. In reality, the Defense industry still gets more than its fair share, and social programs have to scrambel for crumbs, but 1989 was the year people (notably Bush Sr.) started talking about shifting the economy.

It makes addressing the subject all the more agonizing. I'm inclined to say that prices of many goods are a bigger issue than gets credit, but the only input Republicans have to offer is conspiracy theories.

Yes it does. Youre right about price of goods, and its a combination of simple inflation and greed. I was telling people in 2020 this would happen, and never stopped saying it, so thankfully some of the people on the right I know in real life remember and dont get into crazy conspiracies about it.
