Ghido needs to get well into the top ten to surpass where Squall currently is, I wouldn't worry about that. Getting him top of overall stats was my goal this year!

That honestly isnt why. I do love the character, plus being buds with FFD irl makes it more fun.

I have decided my main next year tho and I will say its not her (shes #2, replacing Selphie). Ill do my annual tradition and reveal it after the contest ends.

Ultimecia is cool. As is FFD. I'd support her eventually! But I've got to make good on my XIV and VII stuff first.

Emo Yuna would have had no complaints from me.

Y'all don't deserve my actual ranking of the top 20, but here's my ranking for how excited I would be to see each character make the final*, and a very brief analysis of each:

1. Yuna - by far my favorite character left, and I have no doubt she would do well in a final if she actually made it there.

2. Torgal - he wouldn't be the first non-human to make it to a final, but he'd be the first doggo

3. Seymour Guado - I'm curious if he could break the paradoxical statement that X has never lost in a final and also this would make charon's dream come true (or more likely nightmare when Seymour gets crushed)

4. Red XIII - Nanaki is another good boi and this would prove the Rebirth Boost is real

5. Rikku - This is the one genki girl I would actually support in a final, and she'd be an absolute beast if she made it there I'm sure

6. Barret Wallace - He could bring about an end to RacistFAQs, but also he's actually a very good character that has only improved with the VII lore and he deserves a shot

7. Celes Chere - the final girl of 2D, I gave qualms with former champs making it in over new blood, but it's been a loooooong time for her- much longer than it's been for Squall or Vivi, and I'm curious to know if she still has the juice or if her former power's been let loose.

8. Ultimecia - I literally have no idea what she could do in a final. I don't she'd join the likes of Kefka or Kuja, but who knows?

9. Clive Rosfield - The new hotness but it's not Hot Guy Summer, and I don't think enough people have played XVI to the point where Clive could pull a Balthier and win in his first showing during the debut contest of his game's release. I'd still be excited to see him try though.

10. Sazh Katzroy - See Barret's analysis, but with less certainty because I haven't played XIII. FWIW he seems to be XIII's most generally agreed upon character that everyone likes even the people that don't like XIII so he must be pretty good right?

11. Tifa Lockhart - She's not my favorite VII girl, and in fact I've become neutral to her over the years rather than mildly disliking her as I once did. She only made it to one final with such an embarrassingly low turnout that the result should be thrown out when in discussion of finals potential, honestly. She deserves another shot in a setting where nobody cares about Vlado anymore.

12. Garnet "Dagger" Til Alexandros XVII - I'm curious to see if IX fans would really rally behind a ham sandwich if it were the last charac- just kidding. I don't think Garnet wins against many characters remaining, but maybe she'd do reasonably well as a representative of a very popular game.

13. Emet-Selch - I don't know this character at all, but I'm told I would love him if I played 356623681269 hours of XIV. No idea what he'd do in a final. Mild excitement to find out?

14. Aranea Highwind - I don't know this character at all, but I'm under the impression that I'd like her if I played 45 hours of XV. Probably wouldn't do as well as Emet-Selch in a final. I'm not super excited to find out.

15. Yuffie Kisaragi - Much like Tifa she's only had one shot at a finals and it ended in utter disaster. Does she deserve another chance? Sure, maybe. Am I one of the ones willing to give it to her? Hell no. She's my least favorite of the VII girls, and yet I'd still be more excited to see her get another chance than one I like more.

16. Squall Leonhart - Somehow I am more excited about the negligible possibility of a former champion making it to another final than four other characters! If Leon wasn't there for it from the beginning then he technically didn't see him win...

17. Aerith Gainsborough - my favorite of the VII girl trio, but the fact that she gets close every year makes it not very exciting that she remains a threat to get there yet again

18. Vivi Ornitier - It would take a lot of bad things happening to get me more excited for the threepeat threat than anything else

19. Selphie Tilmitt - my least favorite character left. I have no idea what she'd do in a finals situation and I have little to know desire to find out!

20. Ghido - Pity party aside... this is just a free win for the opponent right? I can't get excited or get behind that at all. Some people have been playing this game for 15+ years and never seen their legitimate favorite Final Fantasy character breach the top 5. This would be insult to injury.
