It's just another version of a "villain wants to basically end existence" plot. Rather than return everything to the void or blow everything up, Ultimecia just wants to c(k)ompress all of time into a single frozen instant. Or something.

Coming from someone who has never thought much of V's characters, this is diabolical.

Am I the only one who doesn't remember Ghido? I've beaten FFV like 5 times, but I still don't remember him. Then again, I don't remember much about FFV..

I like to think Kitase said to Nomura "ok we got this character who's only got a few scenes so, do whatever you want with her design" and Nomura woke up and chose horny.

like, the way the dress is held together. a pure distilled Nomuraism before the KH years (and to a lesser extent, FFX)

there's a reason the most memorable scene from the game comes from Galuf, not the turtle most of us don't remember was even in it

Ghido holds his own against Exdeath in their fight, and he helped seal him away the last time. There's a reason Exdeath considers him a key rival in need of elimination. Don't underestimate him!

You're not alone, I've been told as much by MZero and others. But he is a major NPC in the game, despite what some anti-turtlers may tell you!

Well I was already pulling for her to outlast Selphie, but now I'm REALLY rooting for her!

Tellah's scene has a totally different vibe.

GREATLY prefer Galuf's. But they're not really the same either.

X-Death vs Galuf is a brawl with Galuf using pure grit to hold out against a much stronger foe as X-Death throws everything he can and can't quite put him away. Tellah vs Golbez is an old man flailing helplessly at an opponent who won't even give him the dignity of swinging back and no sells everything until Meteo drops.

There are reasons to prefer Tellah vs Golbez but I'd say it mostly goes into the build to the fight. The fights themselves don't really compare. If you think they're the same you weren't paying attention.

Also, lets factor in that Galuf >>>>> Tellah outside of those two scenes.

I agree with that as well but yeah I just never really felt they were that similar battles beyond "party member battles bad guy solo"

I always found Tellah vs Golbez particularly silly because the only one that really gets over is Meteo. Tellah's normal spells do like 500 and Golbez just ignores him till that point. And then Golbez is mostly stunned more than defeated by it.

And then late game Rydia and Fusoya are dropping Meteos like it's going out of style so I'm not even sure Meteo even comes out of that game feeling like it justified that early game hype.

Well, Galuf being a much better character in general impacts his fight scene too. You are more invested in pulling for him.

The evil head does a lot of meteos too

combine that with reflect and those enemies were always tricky to fight

I don't see Ghido as being unmemorable, but maybe if you played with the stiff translations you might not get as much out of the game's script.

In another timeline, Andy is maining Zalbaag instead of Ghido and FFT is somehow number one in STATS

Galuf is "kind old man sacrifices everything he has (and then some) to save his friends and succeeds"

Those two moments are worlds apart (see what I did there, Martin)

I like both Tellah and Galuf (though I do think Galuf's sacrifice is better for the reasons Leon just stated). But Tellah's like, top...3 or 4 for the FF4 playable cast for me, for a reason.

What I love about Tellah is building up to this moment a savvy players notices Tellah is getting WEAKER as he levels not stronger. He is a man growing more frail by the day going against a nigh untouchable boss pf course it goes how it goes.
