My biggest "cred" concert was getting to see Fall Out Boy in the absolute shittiest of venues durin August of 2004; definitely after they started picking up but before they exploded with From Under The Cork Tree.

They're nowhere near as big, but I got to see Manchester Orchestra in 2007a couple months after their debut launched.

Not so much his music, but I started following Merkules on social media right before he blew up. It was cool watching the entire process, he went from a broke-ass nobody posting funny videos to being rich af performing to huge crowds and signed to Death Row

I saw Lizzo as the opening act for a show in a couple hundred person venue that was less than half full at the time.

later that year I saw her opening for SZA at a 500-capacity venue for $12

i saw Janelle Monae open for of Montreal in like 2011 or something. Could tell she would be a star from that set

Run the Jewels at some small venues before the blew up but both of those artists had been long established before that

Kendrick Lamar at Pitchfork music festivals side stage before he blew up with GKMC too

I saw Soul Coughing open for Jeff Buckley for the Grace album in a 175 person club in Austin.

$12. I stood with his left speaker three feet to my left and him 8 feet to my right. Front row.

My childhood friend was in a local deathcore band back in the day and they played with a band called AngelMaker who are now one of the biggest bands in that scene.

I used to see them in this tiny hole in the wall venue that was basically a converted convention center and their lead vocalist was a garbage man for his day job. Now they tour the world.

Lizzo's a once-in-a-lifetime example of a musician to finally get their big break relatively late in their career despite almost everything not being in their favor. It's a shame she ended up being a shitty person.

I got into Taylor Swift around 2014 as soon as 1989 was released.

I know she was still big even then but I don't think many people my age saw her as a serious artist then.

In general, I was listening to synthwave when there were only a handful of acts. Com Truise. Tesla Boy. The Midnight. Kristine. Timecop. FM-84.

A was listening to Kate Bush's Running Up the Hill before it was ever on the radio or in Stranger Things, or anything like that.

I actually think thats probably why Lizzo had the incidents she did. Like she spent so much of her career being basically peers with all the people she toured with that she eventually took things too far with people who were now her employees. Not to defend her too hard but I can see how from her perspective maybe she though she was just clowning around with her buddies or something

also its interesting you say this in the same post you bring up action Bronson whos not without his controversies
