This is a myth that tesla likes to prop up for their own benefit but it is not the case. Tesla's charging ecosystem is becoming more integrated with other manufacturers' and road trips are entirely possible with a little bit of preparation and research.

Work from home + I have a second car that I use for fun relaxing drives, although that's currently in need of some repairs so I might get above 1k/year on the Civic until I get to that. '86 Jaguar XJS at around 60k miles, a ~7mpg death trap (even being short AF my head is like inches from the windshield) that I love to death (hopefully not literally.)
First car was a 95 Civic that I think I got up to around 200k miles on, so really hoping that the new one will last me forever at this rate.

edit: discussing cars is much more relaxing than discussing politics

There's a reason that PA+MI+WI is called the "Blue Wall" it's the most straight-forward and simplest path to 270 for Dems.

Think her best case scenario is 320 - take that map and add NV, AZ, GA, NC and ME-2. Anything beyond that feels like a real stretch.

Similarly, I think Trump's best case is probably 313. Give him said Blue Wall and NE-1.

Yeah, it's pretty much impossible for the Dems to lose if they win MI/PA/WI. That's half the reason people started calling those states the "blue wall" way back in 2016.

(The other reason is that they weren't supposed to be competitive at all, but that hasn't held up as well.)

It would be dire for the country in general, but just in the moment there is literally nothing funnier than could happen in this election, other than maybe Rs losing Ohio with Vance on the ticket.

Texas was like R+10 in 2020, and there's no reason to expect that large a shift since then. If there's any chance of Texas bring close this year, it'd be because Kamala's winning by enough that Florida would be in play too.

While I think Texas is more in play than THAT.....I dunno, I'm actually starting to think that it's more important to funnel money to FL and MT for the Senate races.

Even if Harris wins, we're on track to lose it if we can't prop at least one of those races up, and they both seem more winnable than taking down Cruz.

Republicans will never torch the EC even if they inexplicably pull a popular vote win (coupled with a stinging EC loss) outta nowhere. They have won the popular vote ONCE in 30+ years, and a part of me is still surprised that Bush managed to give them that lone win against Kerry. If the popular vote was the law of the land, Democrats would run major campaign events and get-out-the-vote efforts in places like LA, NYC, Houston, Chicago. Those major cities/counties might in turn enact local laws like making voting day a holiday for all government employees, further encouraging them to vote. Republicans would follow suit and campaign in these major population centers because that's where the people are, giving small-town America the impression that the GOP has "abandoned" them. All of this sounds like a wet dream to me personally, but the GOP is well aware of it and will go scorched earth if the EC is ever threatened.

Even a terrible EC map is better for their Presidential chances than the popular vote. Plus, they can just quadruple-down on their strategy of voter suppression.

Dems should have been running up the score in populous areas anyways. It will only reinforce the issues with the current EC setup if they carry +10M votes and either lose or only win by a few EC points.

True, but it's already been reinforced in three of the last six elections. If anything, a growing discrepancy between the actual vote count and the EC will only make Republicans fight harder for the status quo, as they know a change to it would roast them.

I'm speaking anecdotally now, but I've had conversations with conservative friends and relatives who LOVE to show the US voting map by county, tout all the red, and yell "See?! Look at all the red! You want a few big cities to override all of THAT?" They really do believe that a land owner in Barstow should have more voting rights than ten apartment renters in Los Angeles.

IMO Republicans would much rather settle for an electoral map where Texas and Florida and are blue-leaning than actually drop the EC. I know that the interstate "Popular Vote Compact" is still being attempted, but it seems as if progress there has stalled out (and surprise, all the states that have adopted it are solidly blue). It honestly even feels like many high-ranking Democrats would fear a national popular vote, as it could also potentially open the doors for third party candidates.

It's so hard to picture all of that actually happening.

What if it's popular vote up to like 60% of the voting population?

155m total votes, 17m in CA. Biden got 11m and Trump 6m, but with the voting cap, only 10.2m would count vs Trump's 6m. The net popular vote for CA would then be +4.2m Biden, which is 2.7% of the total votes.

CA contributes contributes 10% of the EC votes with winner-take-all, so this would be a strict downgrade to the existing power of strongholds like CA and NY, plus it avoids strengthening them like a plain popular vote would do.

It also has a fun effect where, if a state is entirely D votes with no R votes, then those D votes are counted as 3/5ths of a full popular vote. As you increase the # of R votes in that state, the strength of the D votes increases until each one is a full popular vote. So Rs can literally bring back the 3/5ths compromise, except for Ds instead of slaves, if they just choose not to vote at all in a state.

This makes a lot of sense actually. PTSD can be pretty debilitating.

Though imagine if he got therapy for the PTSD and while there they worked on a bunch of the other shit that's clearly wrong with his brain. He might come out of it a completely different person!

I mean it could be PTSD, but he is also so narcissistic and that moment should have been a defining moment in his campaign and it simply isn't. No one cares about it but him.

Which is funny in it's own way because the demise of it was his own creation. Guy just can't help himself. It's likely a mixture of PTSD and his own self indulgence and now he is lost.
