Was the game that terrible? I haven't played it.

The overall response was negative at launch and after the first content drop and I haven't heard much about it since then. A lot of the hate was centered around it being a live service game but there were other issues with it as well. The concurrent player counts on Steam have been under 1000 for months now, so it is not a thriving game.

Well, it was a live service game nobody asked for that was forced on a studio famous for their single player games because every game's publisher wants to make the next Fortnite or die trying.

And to nobodies surprise trying to force a studio to make a live service game they have no experience in resulted in a poor game.

Anytime you charge money for entry into a live service game, it is not going to work. Live service games pretty much have to be free to play.

Thats about 200 dollars too much.

I imagine it'll probably go the Avengers route and be really cheap right before being shut down/dropped from support/whatever. That's probably still a little ways out but doesn't sound like you'd be missing out too much.

This is the real problem.

Some terrible games are still kind of worth playing once they get discounted enough. But with games where the publisher can make the game literally unplayable whenever they want by shutting down the servers, it's usually a bad investment to buy no matter how cheap.

By the point a game gets discounted to $20 or less, the publisher is almost certainly considering shutting the whole thing down for not being profitable enough. So you're basically racing against time to try and get your money's worth before you lose it.

That's a hasty generalization. Most Suicide Squad products are pretty good. The few you find bad aren't even made by the same studios and aren't for the same mediums.

Most games I buy are less $20, and I'm not talking about indie games. I mostly buy heavily discounted games and most of them are popular and still sell well. They just tend to be a few years old.

you just do the same three activities every single time, there's no variety.

If I were 12 nowadays I have no idea how I'd ever leave the house with all the free gaming options there are out there.

As an adult with responsibilities you'd have to literally pay me to spend my free time on these mediocre games. If I really really really want to I can find like 15-20 hours in a week to play a game but the idea that even 1 of those hours would be Suicide Squad and that I would possibly be losing money on that deal is laughable.

Same. But while that works fine for normal games, it's a major risk for games that will be discounted after a year but stop working after a year and a half.

Lots of people willingly spend a lot of money on stuff like Genshin Impact and Korean MMOs (First Descendant, Lineage, etc) so I assume they think they're actually good. Personally, I only really have enough time for games that can actually be finished and ideally, finished by me in less than 500+ sessions.

And while reviews aren't everything, every normal person knows Suicide Squad was not very good. I've had plenty of fun times with mediocre games growing up but again, not enough time as an adult to waste my time on something I know won't be particularly good. If my friends were all playing it for some reason then I guess I'd join but that would be a weird choice from them.

Well this game is not a F2P game technically, and I am speaking outside of gacha games. Tons love games like Fortnite and other shooters which are free, Warframe is a very good F2P game as is Path of Exile. You also have the Moba games out there which are all F2P and are typically considered very good.

So again many good F2P games exist, even if you discount every single gacha game in existence which I think is ridiculous but sure.
