Switching candidates would suggest weakness in the party as a whole, and the dems need to be working together and supporting each other (and humanity [to the extent any mainstream politician is supporting humanity]). Trump is a strongman. Swapping nominees is a bad call against such a vile person. That being said, Biden needs to rehearse and inspire confidence. Because people aren't supporting Biden, I'm starting to thinking Biden should step down, because people aren't supporting him. And that terrifies me. Because I would be 1000% okay with Biden stepping down, if I had any faith in a week or two, we wouldn't be doing this exact same thing with the replacement. Biden has a track record of accomplishments and he is the sitting president, he has a resume that no one else who could run has. Does that mean he is the best man for the job? Not necessarily, but those are some extremely powerful things to have in an election, to throw that away on whim is extremely dangerous. So if Biden steps down, the person who steps up, can't be good, they have to be great. They have to be someone who the left will stay 100% united behind NO MATTER WHAT!!!!!!! And whenever you start naming names, people on the left get wishy-washy. There is no one they want to throw actual support behind anyone. Who ever replaces Biden the first people who would attack them would not be from the GOP or the Press, it would be from the Left. The whole point of incumbency is voter confidence in stability of the administration and familiarity of the candidates. 4-5 months is nowhere near enough time to test new candidates and gain that necessary level of confidence from the american people.
