That's why I'm curious as to why it happened during an election year of all times. Maybe he worked out a deal with the Biden admin not to collude with Republicans (he was coordinating with Don Jr. & Roger Stone in 2016) to hurt the Dems this year as he clearly intentionally did in 2016.

Though I'd rather he do that and also hurt Trump & Republicans as he hurt Clinton & Dems in 2016.

Huh. Genuine question. I thought people liked him and it was a massive controversy when he got arrested. What changed? Maybe it was just the circles I was in. I always thought Snowden was the one who was vilified whereas people were more sympathetic to Assange.

As an Aussie, this is interesting. We get the occasional reminder of him being locked away every couple of months. Even a decent sized protest here and there.

So it's a little odd to see people not want him freed. I've only ever seen the opposite. The bubbles we live in is interesting.

It's not really random, it's a refuelling stop. The Northern Mariana Islands are a US Territory in the middle of the Pacific. He's stopping briefly there to appear before a US court before going to Australia.

He also is accused of sexual assault in Europe. 2 women I think said he did stuff to them

IIRC they (women who made the allegations) dropped the case but the courts decided to go after him anyway.

Yes. The rape stuff was a lot more recent. Don't forget I'm not from the US so he was covered more during his stay in the Embassy and the rape stuff was front page news here for ages. Less so on the Trump stuff.

Assange has been sentenced to time served and is now on his way back to Australia.

An interesting comment from the judge at his sentencing:

Theres another significant fact the government has indicated there is no personal victim here. That tells me the dissemination of this information did not result in any known physical injury.

Which seems to contradict the suggestion that Assange "got people murdered".

Imagine you have a reporter who has information about 2 people and can expose both of those people to the police. Imagine person 1 murdered someone and person 2 is a serial murderer and rapist.

Then imagine this reporter decides to only turn in person 1 to the police and then deliberately cover up evidence about person 2 in order to protect them.

Thats Julian assange. He's not a good guy.
