As an example, if someone has two Superman comics, one from 1950 (I think its that old?) and one from 2020, and they have conflicting continuity, that person is going to have to try and research and hope the internet can answer which one is accurate. If they ever answered. It might be both though, because lazy writing. If a SW book from 1980 is compared to one from 2010, the answer is almost definitely the newer one, because the continuity was continuously evolving. The EU even worked around the G and T canon the whole time, to ensure the retconning only ever went downhill. Beyond that, their system also stopped them from using lazy time travel or multiverse nonsense to explain how everything works. Its by far the most logical and self explanatory system for maintaining canon that Ive ever seen in decades long works of fiction.
