He one of the reasons I stopped watching Game Grumps... He just kept getting more and more obnoxious and less funny over time imo...

He also voiced a character on the final episode of The Owl House.

He's got some good jokes, but he definitely thinks he's funnier than he actually is. He can also get really obnoxious and insufferable when in a bad mood or not holding the controller, which can really hurt an episode.

Also, for being a voice actor, he REALLY needs to show more range. Dude has exactly two voices he pulls out for Game Grumps. You'd never catch someone like SungWon Cho sandbagging just because it's YouTube, but it feels like Arin and Dan are viewing Game Grumps more like it's there for them to phone everything in these days.

Can't recall a single Egoraptor animation by memory either, so I guess I never really cared for him.

Danganronpa 2, where Dan was invested in the story and characters and wanted to do the Free Time events and solve the trials, but Arin was glued to the walkthrough and skipping as much as possible to just rush through the game. He even spoiled a few things while feigning ignorance, like Nekomaru becoming Mechamaru.

He's alright I guess. I don't watch them routinely, but if someone shows a funny clip I don't mind viewing.

I've never watched the show before but they recently started a playthrough of ace attorney 2 which popped up in my recs and I'm always up for ace attorney lets plays and I thought it was really funny at times, but also Arin was reading out of a guide while playing and even spoiled himself, and they apparently upload in giant chunks a month+ in advance before an episode airs so they had misunderstandings about hte last case because they misremembered something and it was so far in advance their comment section never got to correct them. Also there's like a staff there just watching them play? I don't really understand how big the gamegrumps company is I guess. As far as I can tell they just upload an hour of content a day and do some merch stuff, but I am aware they also do live shows.

Their release schedule also seems completely batshit.

It was a weird experience even though I enjoyed it. Not sure I'd want to repeat it.

Anyway GG is fine. They dont do anything really offensive, they have some good moments, and Arin and Dan have good chemistry. Sometimes Arin gets kind of annoying when he goes on rants, but it is far from the worst thing a Youtuber has done.

I saw them start Danganronpa but never watched it because I like the series and couldn't imagine watching Arin play it... Kind of like how I stopped watching them play Pokemon since Arin always just seemed to say incorrect stuff about the game and then get made when he was losing because he fucked up...

I think it's less that YouTube isn't viable anymore and more that Arin is just burnt out and has no exit strategy. Other YouTube networks like The Yogscast are still doing great and bringing on new talent constantly, and even Team Four Star is still hanging in there and making content.

Now that I think about it, that's probably one of the biggest problems that Game Grumps is facing right now -- creativity and expansion. The other two networks I named above are adding new talent and trying new things, but Game Grumps is still just sticking to the same two guys on a couch following the same format, despite having so many other creative people in their circle. (Granted, they have the Power Hour, but I stopped watching when those became low-effort as well. Half of them are (or were) just Arin's gross lunch break now.)

Yeah, this kind of sums it up for me. When he's trying really hard to be funny, it's really annoying. And he should either just not play games he's not interested in or he should hide that fact better because he gets outright fuckin' bitchy.

Aaaand word for word what happened to me. Ironically, I got into them because of the Paper Mario playthrough which had one of Arin's worst moments and I just devoured most of their library. But as I watched more and more of their recent stuff, the more it became obvious that Arin did not want to do GG anymore and was just clocking in and clocking out. Hitting the exact amount of time they needed for the algorithm, getting noticeably pissy and frustrated if Dan insisted they take a little more time to finish something, rushing through a game as fast as possible, all of that.

Majora's Mask was the tipping point for me. Arin spends the entire series bitching about nothing until finally rage quitting when he couldn't beat Gomess, a miniboss in a game designed for children.

Oh, and I didn't watch his Sequelitis stuff until after I'd seen a good bit of GG, but the one where he talks about game design is just laughable when you have the context of him ignoring the most basic-ass instructions in a game and then bitching for the entire playthrough on why something isn't working.

The most funny thing about him is his misplaced confidence that gets immediately shot down in-game. It happens way too often to the point of absurdity.

I seem to remember one moment in Skyward Sword where he was being all huffy about how the game was so braindead that it'd automatically open your parachute for you only to immediately slam into the ground.

I couldn't believe it when I saw that, lmao. I probably would've done the same thing too if I was that cynical about the game, because I didn't remember if you had to do it manually there either.

This post just feels like somebody's headcanon.

On topic, I love Game Grumps. I actively watch episodes fairly regularly, and at night there's a pretty good chance on any given night that I'll throw on a compilation to listen to while I fall asleep.

He owns and participates in Game Grumps, Scribble Showdown, and The Grumps' 10 Minute Power Hour.

He is otherwise known as Egoraptor, and was pretty widely known back in the heyday of Newgrounds for his 'Awesome Series' animations. Ninja Gaiden, Metal Gear, Knuckles Chaotix, Pokemon, etc. all had 'awesome' episodes.

He also had a brief series of videos called "sequelitis" which compared original/early entries in a series to later ones, with some examples being Mega Man compared to Mega Man X, and (most infamously) Zelda/A Link to the Past compared to Ocarina of Time.

He's pretty prolific in the newgrounds/youtube realms of content creation.

I have somehow avoided all of that content spanning multiple years.

I guess it's probably not for me.

Yeah, it's a pretty irreverent style of humor. You might not like it.

I do unironically recommend watching the Mega Man X sequelitis, though. It has a lot of enjoyable and interesting talking points about game design in general, but especially pertaining to MMX's intro stage.

He has his moments, but its like once in a blue moon. Other than that, he just relies on dick and fart jokes.

But that series isn't infamous. The Spider-Kiss gag is pretty well loved by the community, and by Arin and Dan themselves. There wasn't any kind of controversy or bad feelings involved, either.

It's certainly nothing like any of the actually infamous episodes, like the Nickelodeon Guts episode with Jontron where he and Arin got legitimately heated in a dispute about sportsmanship and withholding information from your opponent.

Where did you hear that the Spider-Man episodes were "infamous?" Did you determine that yourself, or did you see somebody say it?

Yeah, the Mega Man X one is great. The Ocarina of Time one less so, because his playthrough on Game Grumps just makes it apparent that his complaints are that he's just bad at the game, lol.

Yeah, that one kind of falls apart once you watch him play the game in real time. He presents it in a way that makes it seem like he is making good points, but really he's just not a fan of the game and isn't willing to actively learn its systems and rules.

This man wore the fucking hover boots for like a third of the game.

He actually does understand MMX though, so that video holds up very well.

Wanna shut the fuck up and let people have their piece without sealioning the thread? I love them too, I saw them live when they visited NZ a few years ago and saw NSP when they came here too. I simply remember Dan having the attitude of "Don't expect me to be here forever guys FR" during one or two commentaries that I just spent way too much time sifting through random vids looking for because this comment really greased my shitter but no luck so believe whatever you want. I never said he painted it as if he hated doing Grumps, I just didn't think he'd still be on show since I stopped watching regularly like 5 years ago.

Fair enough, but in my extensive viewing experience he has always expressed how much he enjoys doing the show, how grateful he is for the opportunity, and how even if he 'retired' from large scale content creation he would still want to do Game Grumps.

I missed a lot of earlier episodes because I've only been watching for like 5-6 years, so maybe that's something that was said back then, but in all my time as an engaged viewer I've never gotten that vibe from Dan.

I enjoy their plays of more niche games, visual novels, and bad games. I can't watch Arin play anything AAA. it just highlights how bad Arin is when the game neon flashes the tutorials at you and he still can't figure it out. It's so bad it's not even funny. It's just annoying and sad.

I will say, part of the whole "skips the tutorial" thing is because it's a comedy bit, but he also has a major vendetta against tutorials that handhold the player through the game.

It doesn't make it any less painful to watch him flounder around with basic foundational mechanics, though. You really do need a strong constitution to watch some of those games. He somehow managed to suck at the bullet minigame (shooting the right keywords) in Danganronpa for a long time.

Ive long since accepted that the games are just a vehicle to drive the comedy. Its mainly two guys messing around and having fun rather than to play games competently like a proper lets play channel.

but yes, Arin does turn into petulant child when he emotionally checks out of a game and is still required to continue playing.

hes also refusing to play Rise From The Ashes of Phoenix Wright 1 because it wasnt on the GBA original but he also said they lost the save file of their original playthrough and dont want to play through the whole game again just to reach the fifth chapter.

Yeah, this is absolutely the case. A lot of people don't seem to like that aspect, but if you want to see high quality gameplay, you don't watch Game Grumps. That's just true facts.

I had to stop watching them partially from general incompetence and from how often it devolved into dick jokes. Years later heard they did Hollow Knight and went to watch. That was a mistake. Better part of an hour spent stop going in the same circle and ignoring all text. They finally stumbled into the first boss, beat it, and stopped playing. In the same timeframe, a streamer I watch was nearly done with Hornet on his first playthrough.

he's fine. I don't actively watch or consume game grumps, just occasionally, or compilations of funny moments. his best content is still the awesome series
