Rules:

8. Pretty much every character from Ace Attorney will be rated. The schedule will go in chronological game order in the West (with AAI2 being right after AAI just for consistency). When a character debuts and gets a major speaking role, they will show up (so Trucy appearing for a moment in 4-1 doesn't count as a 4-1 character). Major characters get their own day and minor characters are all ranked at once. All extremely minor characters (background, animals, mascots, and jury) will be rated on the final day.
9. The "roles" listed are: Defense, Rival, Assistant, Detective, Judge, Victim, Defendant, Culprit, Witness, Background, Animal, Mascot, and Jury. Sorry, I'm not pointing out accomplices.

Grey's the rare victim you speak to before they die. I almost always like these characters. He's pretty shitty, but it does sting to see him dead. Then you learn more about him and, no, he really is that shitty.

I appreciate Morgan as an element in the Fey plot, but I don't really care for her as a character. As people mentioned in the 2-2 case, it's strange you never really confront her and Phoenix's conversations with her just meander around.

Miney is great. I like both the Ini persona and the Mimi persona. I think she's a little defanged by 2-3's culprit being a better version of her and the fact that you never really get to know the Mimi side.

Hotti's one of those contenders for worst character in the series. It's fair. I will give him points because he makes me laugh on two occasions. I like that his ability to read people's minds is never questioned and only shows up a few times. Him randomly showing up in AJ (and GAA as Wilson's dentist clinic!) is also great. Of all the people to bring back....freaking Hotti. Unlike Meekins, it really is a cameo so I don't feel like he takes up space.

Morgan is probably the worst 'major' character of the original trilogy. She just does absolutely nothing for me, and she's in many ways the main villain of the trilogy! Just...go away, she drags down the entire Fey family.

Miney is pretty good though!

I like Grey for being an awful, awful person. The rare victim where you...kinda don't feel bad for them.

Hotti can fuck off though.

For me, it would probably be some time in T&T between Kudo and all of 3-5.

I've never really cared about that. People like to make jokes about the "eat your hamburgers, Apollo" stuff, but the Ace Attorney localization is so brilliant that I find it more impressive than silly that they pulled it off.

He gets a few points for the novelty of not being dead right out the gate, and for doing his job well as an unlikeable guy.

Great as a plot device, underwhelming as an actual character. She's great on paper but then I replay the series and go "yeah she really was underutilized, huh?"

Miney: 6.5

Ya she's great. I'm convinced she'd probably be more beloved and sympathetic if she didn't use Maya as a scapegoat, because man if they don't do a good job making Grey a piece of shit (see above). Wish we had a chance to see more of the Mimi side though.

Hotti: 3

He's not lower solely because I thought his initial appearance made for a really funny joke and that for how utterly abhorrent he is, he doesn't actually show up too often and his cameos never last too long. Do I still wish his spot was taken by a better character? Definitely, but it could be worse. He could be a ventriloquist.

As someone who is tickled by alternate history stuff, I didn't mind any of the Japanifornia stuff. I just rolled with it. This is a game where an 8 yr old can turn into a woman with big bazongas by channelling her spirit, the idea that there might be a version of the United States with a stronger Japanese population isn't strange to me.

Turner Grey: 4/10

Almost entirely for that screenshot of him giddily pointing the gun at Mimi after being stabbed in the chest. The constant glasses adjusting might irrationally annoy me more than any animation in the series though.

Morgan Fey: 2.5/10

Just a total waste of a character. When people say they dislike all the Fey stuff, I get it with Morgan. She's such a clich villain. You never get to confront her. You never make her confess. She's just collateral damage and then she masterminds 3-5 without actually being present in the case. Utterly unsatisfying as a villain.

Ini Miney: 7/10

I used to not like her because her ditzy personality is tiresome and conversations with her are difficult as a result. However, in hindsight once you realize it's all an act and you can see the moments when Mimi drops the mask, it makes her a lot more interesting.

Director Hotti: 5/10

Dude is super creepy, I get it, but he still makes me laugh during the times when he's not being a creep.

He's fine? I dunno. He does what he's meant to, which isn't something I particularly want but hey, and more importantly doesn't show up that much. I can't really fault him

Miney is great! She's fun and has hilarious animations. Not much more to say about her.

I think Morgan is one of the biggest wastes of potential in the entire series. She could have been a *really* cool villain spanning this game and the next but they do absolutely nothing with her - you basically never get a confrontation with her at all, you do one quick testimony with her in which you don't even point out any contradictions and then you never see her again. Such a waste.

Grey does his job. He doesn't overstay his welcome, because he gets fucking murdered, and for the time he's there, he sucks ass, but in a good way, you kind of get why Mimi wanted to kill him. Totally effective character.

Director Hotti is one of the characters in this series that I *actually* hate. The joke doesn't work for me and I think he's just gross. There are very few characters in this series that I actually feel that way about.
