It started happening recently where a Discover ad would pop up at the bottom of the page and freeze everything and i would have to refresh to get rid of the ad, fucking annoying. Don't know how it's bypassing Adblock, but perhaps I need to switch to a different browser finally?

I think Google and Chrome are trying their damndest to nip adblocks in the bud. I barely use Chrome anymore but even on Opera I get adblock trouble (I use uBlock Origin)with Youtube sometimes.

Probably worth switching to Firefox or something else anyway as Chrome has only gotten worse over time but uBlock Origin replaced Adblock plus a while ago

Adblock Plus is compromised but Ublock Origin is still good

Remember that Chrome is Google, so they deliberately sabotage adblockers since it costs them revenue.

Don't know if this is your issue specifically here but Chromium browsers are moving to Manifest V3 which impacts the ability for adblockers to... well block ads in some cases - including uBlock Origin (though they are trying their best to figure out how to best tackle it)

Firefox is keeping Manifest V2.

I've definitely seen instances where uBlock Origin on Chromium browsers can't stop ads where uBlock Origin on Firefox can so certain ads are starting to adjust.

Adblock sold out years ago, and as stated Chrome has a financial incentive to break adblockers.

Firefox + Ublock Origin is the way to go (Some other non Chromium browsers should work as well).

Fandom is like 90% of why I run uBlock and if I am no longer able to do so, my internet use will decrease substantially. Firefox seems fine for now but... I'm worried.

...though that may actually be a good thing.

They are, especially with the Manifest V3 changes right around the corner. Not to mention:
https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock/wiki/uBlock-Origin-works-best-on-Firefox

But, what you can do right now on Chromium-based browsers is keep your filter lists up to date, and go into Settings -> Filter lists -> check the "Suspend network activity until all filter lists are loaded" box (this option is enabled by default on Firefox, a bit buggy on Chrome but still worth enabling imo to stop those YouTube ads from loading)

I used Firefox years ago and then switched to Chrome and have been using it for a decade or more. I'm ready to switch back to Firefox, it's probably not as resource-intensive too

You can get a plugin that redirects fandom links to versions with no ads.

switched to Brave a couple months ago almost completely and its been a better experience all around. the only areas where Chrome wins are the google heavy stuff like maps but i like the delisted search better 90% of the time.

I started using Brave on iPhone a few days ago and its amazing how much difference it makes. No ads and much faster. 100% recommend for mobile.

on on mobile brave is leagues ahead of chrome. that's half the motivation to using it in browser too, since it's still chromium based you can have access to tabs from other devices, which was the biggest thing keeping me in chrome for the longest time. but the built in ad blocking just makes things so much better on everything. news sites or searches for recipes or whatever else are actually usable again.
