Game Pass is a paid subscription, so they aren't giving it away lol.

But yeah, microtransactions, more subscriptions, plus money earned from it being on PC/Playstation is most likely the idea

Seems like they have to at least try to find out what level of Game Pass subscriptions it can drive. If they create a new tier or exclude it they're virtually guaranteed to see a decline in subs from annoyed users.

theoretically, for the gamer whos just a big COD head, there may be more value in getting a year of subscription fees out of them than in getting $70 once

guess it depends on how many other games on Gamepass you would otherwise expect them to buy

CoD is already infested with microtransactions, seriously boot up any version of the game released in the last 5 years and they're everywhere. Thats not even including the battle passes. So Game Pass will probably get a rate hike, because that's still a lot of cheddar they'd be leaving on the table. CoD still sells like hotcakes every year even when its reviewed poorly.

MW3 was less than 5 hours long including cutscenes, about 3 hours of that was gameplay.

That sounds sick, as long as the cutscenes are skippable

If you want 3-8 hour FPS games there's a rapidly increasing mountain of Boomer Shooters to chew through. Originally thought you were in it for the cinematic campaign aspect, but based on that last post it sounds like that's not an issue!

I thought the majority of money from COD was from MTX like maps/skins/etc. Now they get to lock those suckers that play $70 every year into a $19.99 monthly subscription.

He isn't wrong! Combined Xbox Series SKUs were outsold 5 to 1 by PS5 last quarter, compared to the average 2 to 1 overall since launch. If they did make CoD completely exclusive and still can't move numbers, the hardware is done for.

I do like the cinematic campaigns, not the cutscenes but the interactive setpieces which can can have some really interesting level designs. I like modern boomer shooters too but those are more focused on the shooting aspect itself.
