In Japanese a katana is just single sided bladed weapon, including similar European weapons, a Japanese katana is a nihontou . Similarly samurai is not the word used for the hereditary warrior class, bushi is. And a samurai family is a buke. So the question would be was Yasuke made a buke? We literally don't even know what his name was before Nobunaga named him Yasuke. He's popular now because Western culture is just now realizing he exists despite documentation of him having been available for centuries.
