I'm just assuming it's a somewhat fair comparison. I like both but I have more time in Skyrim, despite having owned Elden Ring longer.

Skyrim has more mainstream appeal, as it offers more than exploration and combat, but I feel like Elden Ring is the overall better made game.

Two completely different games.

One hardly works without updates and mods. Has an open world but nothing to really do in it besides talk to more generic people about stuff nobody cares about.

The other has you struggling to find some goal, getting stronger, and trying to find ways to die less. The game works on a base level too, and doesnt look like barf.

If just going by base game Elden Ring is easily the better game. Skyrim's gameplay and combat are pretty outdated tbh. Modding makes Skyrim much better though, but I don't know if you could count that when comparing

You can just say that you've never ridden a horse in Skyrim. It's quicker.

I think it clearly depends on preference. As a non-Soulsbourne fan and a huge Elder Scrolls fan, my choice is obvious. For people that are the inverse their choice is obvious.

It does feel like a strange comparison. If I had to pick one to play it would be Skyrim, however Elden Ring is like a work of art. Both make my top 20 of all time.

Elden Ring is the better game pretty free. Runs better, looks better, and plays better. Skyrim is held back by a horseshit engine that makes the game a slog to actually explore.

I'm sure mods alleviate it somewhat but ER didn't need mods.

ill be honest. skyrim runs better on my pc than elden ring at 4k resolution :(

Comparing two entirely different types of games that were released over a decade apart from one another, doesn't make sense to me. Yeah they're both open world action-RPGs, but one is more tightly focused and linear, and the other is more akin to a first-person immersive sim.
