Pretty sure being disruptive but nob violent still fell under peaceful. Unless, of course, what he really means is "quiet".

But if people are being arrested and assaulted for peacefully protesting, then that kind of only leaves less pleasant and even louder options on the table.

This speech is towards protesttors and counter protestors, so I assume that's covered under "don't be violent", which would apply to any protestor.

But no, he didn't make a specific reference to the UCLA violence, just a general no violence, no islamaphobia, racism, etc.

To be clear, I think he shouldn't have mentioned disorder, since any protest is going to have some sort of disorder. They're all messy and can easily get out of control.

Student peacefully protesting is violent. Israel bombing children and maiming them as they play in the streets is just self defense.

That doesn't mean the cia has plotted against the pro Palestine protestors.

This is just protest. And disorder comes with terrible actions and always has. There's never been a now sanctified protest or social justice movement that didn't have a lot of this stuff.

I wouldn't expect different from him since he can't bless violence. But when he's spending 100 percent of his time chiding protesters, calling them violent and antisemitic, but not discussing the violence of the anti-prostesters and police and will likely sign a law making even peaceful protest on this issue illegal....it's not good.

They were practically salivating for violence to escalate once the UCLA encampment started getting taken down. I've honestly ever seen anything like the coverage on multiple networks. They were just short of cheering the police and making comments that showed they were hoping for a spark to ignite.

That is clearly aimed at the protesters not the counter protesters and police.

Often the order itself is violent. It's not moral to uphold that type of "order". Having "peace" while these colleges and our government are complicit in and profit off genocide is not the type of "order" we should respect. That order is the problem and it's what the students are dissenting against.

It's straight up white moderate bullshit, the exact type of thing MLK was talking about and huge swaths of America have never at any point understood or agreed.

Why do people think this cant be ignored now? I know plenty of people who arent even aware protests are happening. It can be ignored just as easily whether theres vandalism or isnt. The biggest difference is just how its portrayed by the media, but plenty of people dont watch or read the news.

What he's saying isn't wrong. But peaceful protests, which the vast majority of this is, is barely moving any needles.

The media is out for blood, but he can't very well attack them as a whole like Trump can and still does. Not that he even wants to.

He and the White House are carefully crafting their words to not give the right-wing any ammo against him to run ads for him being antisemitic, pro domestic violence, or hypocritical with regards to January 6th comparisons using his OWN words. Their still going to do it, most likely. But they won't have his gaffs to hang him with.

But that doesn't mean you can't also stress that you understand that MOST of these protesters are not breaking ANY laws at all, and to not let the actions of the few taint the many.

Who knows, maybe he has done that and I just haven't seen it because the media is only trying to paint a specific picture. But I don't THINK he's done that at all to the degree he should. I mean, if he were, I'm sure the social media teams would highlighting it.
