You work Walmart if you want to have a half dozen middle managers yelling at you simultaneously to do five different things in the same time frame only to be fired when the sixth one feels pissy that didn't jump on the thing that they personally wanted you to do.

Mcdonalds would be the harder job, Walmart would be more soul destroying and management hell.

I'd rather not work at either, ever, tbh. Fast food is still kitchen work and that can be very difficult, and the other is a circle of retail hell.

Retail work is better to me. I avoided restaurant work for a reason.

I would think Walmart would be better since some jobs require limited contact with others (stocking shelves, filling orders)

Why do you hate restaurant work so much though?

Depends on the Walmart benefits. McDonalds gave a free meal per shift, 50% off when youre off the clock, medical and dental insurance, and a 401K where theres no limit and they triple the first 1% contributed 3-1, then the next 3% is matched 1-1.

The downside, of course, was the abundance of Karens and smelling like oil everyday. But since I never eat breakfast, I ate there almost exclusively 5 days a week for over 5 years lol. Thankfully Supersize Me was a load of shit or I wouldve been on My 600 lb. Life long before I quit that job lol

I've worked in the restaurant business, but only for local pizzerias. It's not that bad of an atmosphere but the pay is terrible unless you're a delivery driver. Also dealing with rude customers and having to work like youre Sonic the hedgehog is just not going to cut it. I know that McDonald's is far worse, I'd never willingly work there.

I have worked for Walmart and it was legitimately one of my favorite jobs I've ever held.

Stocking shelves was easy and laid back, I usually never had a manager watching over me. I got an employee discounts for everything but food and alcohol.

No one came from privileged backgrounds, so no one's looking down their nose at you or thinking you're weird. Fitting in has always been difficult for me, being on the spectrum. But here everybody was friendly and not judgmental.

You got to experience true diversity. I made friends with and had acquaintances with people from Jamaica, Mexico, The Dominican Republic, and an African country I can't remember.

Also I've never had another job where people could have coworkers their age no matter how old they were. I knew there were lots of people in their 20s-30s but there were a lot of older people as well. Plenty opportunities to make friends or even find dates. That was the best socially adjusted time of my life.

Only downside is the corporate overlords who don't care if you had a bunch of sick time stored up and they switched over how the system works and gave you no rollover from the old system.... Then you got the sickest you've ever been in a long time and your doctor's note meant nothing to them.

Oh yeah also managers have a lot more work thrown on their plate than your average worker. But for my area the starting pay is a lot higher than average for an entry level job.

Ive never worked at either, but I worked at target and a bunch of restaurants and target is probably the most mind numbingly boring job Ive ever had. It was easy but the pay sucked and I absolutely hated going to work

This. I was at Walmart for seven years, and it's the most stressful and depressed I've ever been in my life because of that.
