Like, maybe you're sitting at a B- or C+ for your class, or even about to fail with a D+ or something. So you look at your syllabus and determine what you are being graded on and what will be required to reach that treasured C- mark, and then when you study for your exam or write your essay you keep your eyes on the prize and that's all you work towards

I've definitely accepted a lower grade due to laziness but generally I try to do decent, like a B

Sort of, in my postgraduate program we were graded on a curve in each subject. Top 10% got an A, middle 60% got a B, bottom 30% got a C. 2/3 of your total credits have to be a B or higher to be pass the program. Just made sure I wasnt part of the bottom 30% in each class, which wasnt so hard, and when I got enough B credits I relaxed even more.

I didn't calculate down to the decimal, but this was my modus operandi through most of school. They really should've explained grants and scholarships to me better, instead of this nebulous "discipline and character" bullshit.

I think I took off the entirety of december at least twice in high school, no idea how I got away with that.

Ive calculated which tedious assignments I wouldnt have to do to maintain a B and not done them lol. But that meant I had to get As in what I did turn in.

Sort of. When I was a kid my parents were fine with anything above a 3.0. So I only tried enough to get that.

When I did my test for getting my learners permit, I just got the required number of correct answers which is like 20 and then just randomly picked the rest of them so I could go home.
Got a good laugh out of it too, since the guy behind me failed his test.

I had an introductory history class in college once that the teacher would pull the most obscure info to ask questions about (the brightest students in the class were struggling to achieve high B). Coming into the final, I needed like 94% to get a D-, so I saved my time.
