Then vote for Biden.

That is literally the choice in this election. Third party bullshit has no place in the discussion when democracy is on the line.
So what you're saying is, to protect Democracy we need to reject Democracy? Because what I'm doing is Democracy in action.

Thanks for the extra context. Looking back at that, It was kind of insensitive. But I know why I made that comment now. I was tired of reading exaggerated responses (a buildup across many topics) that act like It's going to be so bad that it will be like we are going to start living in a dystopian cyberpunk hell hole where fear rules the streets, yatta yatta.

Dude, it wasn't exaggerated. If people were actually acting like we were going to start living in a dystopian cyberpunk hellhole where fear rules the streets, then you'd be seeing posts like "I'm just so scared right now. I'm just hiding out in my basement with my .22 in my hands"" "I'm planning on buying a gun tomorrow" "Building a wrought iron fence to keep the lynch mobs out when SHTF" "URGENT: Is there a way to make my smart home hack-proof and home-rig it to fire bullets or harpoons at anything that approaches it?" and angry panic-laden rants that end with "FUCK THIS, I'M HEADING OUT TO LOOT WALMART!"

I don't know the situation here, and it's not my business to ask. I certainly wish her no harm either.

Republican politicians, however, would tell your girlfriend "We don't care" if her life was in danger due to pregnancy. Hell if said politicians have their way, you won't be able to buy condoms. Or the morning after pill. Or any form of protection/pregnancy prevention that any responsible adult might want.

Do you still think people are "overreacting"?

My absurd post was in response to one person who started talking about how next they were going to repeal gay marriage or make interracial couples illegal.

They are.

Here, because the majority decision declined to address this issue [of basic Constitutional, if not human, rights], Thomas wrote separately to encourage them to:

For that reason, in future cases, we should reconsider all of this Court's substantive due process precedents, including Griswold, Lawrence, and Obergefell. Because any substantive due process decision is "demonstrably erroneous," Ramos v. Louisiana(THOMAS, J., concurring in judgment)we have a duty to "correct the error" established in those precedents, Gamble v. United States(2019) (THOMAS, J., concurring). After overruling these demonstrably erroneous decisions, the question would remain whether other constitutional provisions guarantee the myriad rights that our substantive due process cases have generated.

SOURCE: https://reason.com/2022/06/24/clarence-thomas-calls-to-reconsider-gay-marriage-sodomy-rulings/

And I fucking hate Reason, but even they see what this direct quote directly implies.

The Thomas Court is willing to do what Republicans have been salivating over since the lavender scare: outlawing lgbt people.

Don't fucking act like it's irrational or an overreaction. He knows what he's saying, and it's not the first time either side has taken the opportunity to use an opinion saying, "We're ready to solve this issue if you find us the right case."

Yeah, I'm not buying that anyone who is really pro-choice would go around saying they are "pro-abortion". It's most of the way toward admitting to be pro-"baby killing", and that's a notorious right-wing framing of the issue.

Biden isn't a fascist king and since he doesn't control the government he can't force decisions. Until Dems hold all three branches of the government it's going to be extremely difficult for them to enact actual change. Fat fuck winning in November means he gets to taint the Supreme Court even more AND do further damage to our government by essentially becoming a king and forcing his agenda through undemocratic means.

Yeah, it's something people don't seem to grasp. The same way that roe was slowly chiooed away at by Republican voters continually voting for asshole GOP members who worked to get rid of it. You have to keep voting more and more non shitty republicans in to make big positive changes.

When roe got overturned there are pictures of all the congressional efforts in that year alone for Democrats trying to protect women's rights and codify roe, but they werent able to pass because, gasp there weren't enough democratic party members to overcome the shitty Republican ones.

It's not about just voting for Biden once and being done. You can to KEEP voting for Democrats in every position to get rid of the cancer that is the GOP. It sucks, but it is what it is.

Not everyone is as pessimistic when it comes to the lengths republicans will go.

This is why I think the mods need to be more active in topics like these and intervene when the direction of the conversation trails away from the topic and becomes about personal squabbles. Saying "That's rich coming from you, because you said this other thing in another topic" adds absolutely nothing to the discussion about the actual topic and just makes things heated while drawing other people away from the topic to join in. Mods should be proactive about this in potentially political topics.

Turns out its not pessimism. Its being realistic.

To be completely honest, its making me want to talk to people at work more. Im surrounded by conservatives and Im curious of their take.

When your assistance or intervention can result in an unintentional death and the state breathing down your neck with a murder charge, one can't blame people for refusing to help.

In some countries offering assistance to someone involved in an accident can lead to you being sued or responsible for failing to help them fully. So bystanders just don't intervene. Someone dying? Sucks to suck.
