Pokemon required resource management, which can be difficult.

Current YGO lacks a resource system, which is one of the major reasons why I refuse to play it. The game is too fast, you can lose before even starting your turn.

I played both from the start, and Pokmon was a lot more straightforward.

Easier calculations.
No taking anyone's cards
No acting on opponent's turn
No complex ways of getting cards into play (Fusion and all the crap that followed it)

yugioh is infinitely more complex than pokemon

this sort of feels like a take from someone who didn't actually play yugioh by the proper rules and was too young/clueless to even realize

Oh my, you're in for a surprise. In fact as much as I like YuGiOh!, I'd suggest you stick with Pokemon.

id recommend not looking into modern Yugioh if your memories of it are uncomplicated

I never knew how to really play the physical card game but I think that was more to do with being young and too impatient, the same way I'm sure tons of families played by their own Monopoly rules rather than have to basically do lectures to an unwilling audience and constantly consult the instructions.

That said once the Gameboy Color game came out, I learned how to play properly relatively quick and it was great. Still never played an actual match in real life, though.

idk where on Earth TC got that idea from because it's factually the opposite, but in addition it's what also made Pokemon boring compared to YuGiOh's deeper, more engaging playstyle

Modern yugioh rarely goes beyond three whole turns. The meta, last I checked, was immediate draw to win condition, and forfeit if it doesn't happen by turn 2 or 3.

Modern Yugioh is incredibly complicated now, and boring imo. I watched a video from last years world championship and the first guys turn took 8 minutes before the second player could interact

Last time I even payed attention to YGO, Lightsworn was the meta deck. Watched a video recently on current YGO and it makes Lightsworn look like a joke.

yugioh is beyond fast with 1-2 turn kills.

im currently gotten into MTG, which while having some complex interactions, is very fun

My guess is that you never actually understood the rules of YGO and just assumed it was easier because you just house-ruled nonstop.

There has never been a point where YGO was easier to understand than Pokemon.

I would say first release YGO was easier to intuit than OG pokemon precisely because resource management was nothing beyond mob sacrifice. All you had to do was learn the turn order and figure a good way to balance your deck. Pokemon energy required a sort of distant math consideration, at least for a child with both options at the time.
