The first 8 were the sports offered at my High School. We also offered Tennis & Golf, but like nobody watched those. There was NOT a Boy's Volleyball team until my senior year (and one guy got a full rise off of it). I know most schools don't have them, so I didn't include then. Then there is Lacrosse & Hockey. Most of the schools near me had La Crosee, but for some reason we didn't despite having a La Crosse field -- no idea why. Apparently, if you live somewhere that snows, then you have Hockey instead...but it's rare to have both Hockey & La Crosse.

This is how it worked out in Arizona -- there was obviously no Hockey.

1st Athletics Quarter:
  • Football
  • Swimming
  • Cross Country
  • Men's Volleyball

2nd Athletics Quarter:
  • Basketball
  • Wrestling
  • Soccer
  • Golf

3rd Athletics Quarter:
  • Baseball
  • Track
  • Tennis
  • La Crosse

In college there was all sorts of shit. Horse Dancing, Gun Shooting, etc.

I played football and cricket for my school. Cricket at University.

But school/college sports aren't at all a big deal in the UK like they are in the US. If you're any good at football, you will be scouted by a professional team as a kid and forbidden from playing for school in case you get injured.

Baseball, indoor soccer, and bowling as a kid. But those were never affiliated with school. Baseball was your typical youth sports league. Indoor soccer was similar, but we had to drive 45 minutes to the next town because ours didn't have a facility or league. Don't fully remember how I ended up starting that in the first place, but it was really awesome. And bowling leagues are kind of a family tradition. My parents met in a bowling league, and my brother and I have both been bowling competitively in leagues and tournaments for decades.

And then there's the one I always get shit for whenever I mention it. I was a fencer for my high school and competed in the state tournament twice. And everyone always immediately assumes "privileged rich asshole" but I swear it was just a normal public school. We just got really really lucky. There was a student who happened to be born and raised in our town who, on his own time with his family, had been training with aspirations to become an Olympic fencer. He was one of the top ranked youth fencers in the entire country. The kid was an absolutely insanely good fencer. He just happened to attend the same public high school, and his junior year just because he thought it would be fun, he asked the school if they would sponsor a fencing club and he and his parents, who clearly had plenty of experience, offered to coach for free. They also had plenty of spare equipment like swords and masks with his Olympic training connections, so people could try it out before dropping hundreds of dollars on an admittedly expensive school sport. It was so much fun, and getting to watch him basically troll everybody in every match against other schools was wild. XD

I fenced in highschool and college preseason (had to drop because I had too much work). To the above poster's point: In highschool, our toughest opponents were an underfunded urban school's team. Fencing requires very little space and the equipment is relatively cheap.

In high school:

Football
Baseball

In college:

intramural softball
intramural basketball

I wanted to play college football but I could barely even stand up straight after a bad injury during my senior year of HS. I eventually got to a point that I could be active again but to this day my knee is pretty fucked.

It's not so much that it's cheap, as swords, masks, and scoring systems can be fairly pricey. It's that it's literally designed for sword fighting, so it's super durable and rarely needs replacing. It's a one-time investment.

No, and I regret it. I played HS baseball and rec league basketball and football, and lots of college intramural sports. But I wasnt good enough to play on the collegiate level. I have torn an ACL in each knee, which did not help.

My oldest son has been playing lacrosse goalie since middle school and is in his first year playing college lacrosse. He was already a better athlete in 5th grade than I have ever been my whole life.

I played lacrosse, golf, and one year of football in high school.

I didn't play anything in college but our college didn't have many official sports. I was on the rock climbing "team" which was an informal group of people that had scheduled practices and went to bouldering competitions, if that counts.

I was all conference in tennis all four years in high school. Always ended up getting a round or two into the regional tournament and drawing the dude that would end up being state champ from some ritzy private school in the state capitol.

I got a collegiate offer but the school wasnt somewhere I wanted to go as it was only twenty minutes from home, all my friends were going somewhere else, and I had no real future with the sport. It was also an HBCU and it seemed wrong to accept a scholarship as a white guy.

We had a few community youth leagues when I was young. I played soccer for multiple years, until I aged out of it. Played 1 season of basketball.

In middle school I started playing football(we didn't have a peewee equivalent before that.) And competing in track/field with shot put and discuss throw.

Played football into high school until my junior year. I quit because the coaching was terrible with no real hope for improvement. In high school track, I started doing high jump along with shot/discuss.

Aside from team sports, I did taekwondo until I was fourteen. Made it to second degree black belt, and went to a bunch of competitions along the way.

Me too. How functional did you find your TKD training? People say its not functional, but I've been using that side kick in fights for years

I think the biggest takeaway is muscle memory and techniques like how to properly throw a punch/kick. Detractors seem to think people who learn martial arts are incapable of transferring their knowledge from "proper tournament sparring" into real world scenarios. In reality the rules are different and everything is more instinctual and less rigid.

I briefly did track for a few weeks. The training was fun imo. Had a scare when I passed tf out for a split second during my first 400m race. Felt like my heart was gonna burst and all that. Got a part-time job the following week instead

Also did cheerleading for a season

Both in HS

I also did tkd and they do teach some useful kicks for real world scenarios. Unfortunately it falls to the dame kryptonite that any traditional martial arts does. If you come across a grappler you are boned. I'd still rather have tkd than nothing but it wouldn't be my first choice.
