maybe old people dying doesnt matter tho, check with your local anti vaxxer for more info.
It was kind of crazy how prominent the argument was. No matter how much the death toll, hospitalizations, long time side effects grew, it was always "Well actually all those people are old or have preexisting conditions! We can't shut down the world because people that are half-dead couldn't handle getting the flu!"

And the crazy shit is that a most of the anti-vaxxers and the literal majority of the fucking American population had the goddamn preexisting conditions! Yet they acted like it was a few dozen immunocompromised people that live in bubbles

Everyone was spreading it regardless if you were vaccinated or not.

The real problem was letting people in our country to spread it in the first place.

the real problem was Trump. Before Covid and during Covid, he downplayed the fuck out of Covid thus encouraging antivaxxers to avoid Covid shots/spreading misinformation
ultimately its because of trump being trump is the main reason why Covid spread so much.

there was a lot of things that could of prevented the spread, sure.
however when you have a president (at the time) who did what he could do to thwart any attempt minimize the spread of a disease only exacerbated the whole Covid fiasco . Weeks turned to months, months to to a whole year, families were torn, businesses ruined because of the poor decision making from the former president.

The one thing Covid taught me is that we as a species will never ever do anything like it again so when the next pandemic hits it will be even more devastating than Covid because there will be absolutely no safety nets, safety regulations, safety precautions at all and corporations will ramp up their prices anyway using the excuse of the pandemic but will not lower them once it's over.

Another thing it taught me is that people are extremely expendable, thousands can die and nobody will really care, even millions can die and nobody will give a care.

I still despised that shit, the corporations, the government and the people themselves basically rather than actually make sure the people who HAD to still do their jobs in that could do it as safely as possible slapped a pointless label on you guys and used that to make themselves feel better about effectively killing people for their personal comfort. Essential worker? They should have been honest and just said "Expendable cog" because that's really what the world saw those people as during the pandemic, and then there's the way they treated the medical staff

I was at whole foods part time and god I fucking hated that shit.

The one silver lining about it was that we basically trashed the "customer is always right" crap and I felt like it was way more acceptable for retail workers to basically tell customers to fuck off if they were pulling some anti mask nonsense.

Maybe.

But his cult latched on to things like "It's a democrat hoax designed to make me look bad" he said on top of all the other shit he said.

His cult and antivaxxers didn't need anything more than that to be said and still repeat their idiocy. And it kept going on as hospitals were filling up and people were dying. Trump, his cult, and antivaxxers made it a goal that any quarantine attempts failed and were instrumental in it getting as bad as it did.

We're just lucky it wasn't worse than it was.

Even if there was prompt decision making there still would have been families and businesses ruined, less for sure but I feel like we'd still have an empty year essentially. Not even getting started on the lower priority jobs which are entirely reliant on public services and people being present, not even the best plan to minimize the pandemic would have salvaged them.

That is the thing I am still bitter about. Called an essential worker (I stocked shelves in a grocery store) while other minimum wage workers got to collect unemployment that was likely higher than what I was making for a few months. Would have been nice for us "essential workers" to be thrown a bone.

Not even going to front, I actually like getting my pain medicine refills and whatnot just using whatever videoapp on my phone with my doctor for like 5 to 10 minutes =/ Back then I needed to have a doctor appointment every month+urine tests every other month for all that. During lockdown it was a get out of bed, brush my teeth, get on phone with a vid doctor appointment for 5 minutes, swing by pharmacy and get prescription in like 10 to 15 minutes because everything is barren, go right back home to laze about and play persona 5 royal/ff7 remake/RE3 remake/whatever else was dropping in 2020.

Also did a lot of hanging around with the family with texas roadhouse not working my bro like a slave.

To this day I still don't know how my local gamestop in south carolina bullshit their way open as a "essential business", lol. Like you couldn't go into the store or actually make new pre-orders but you could curb-side pick-up anything that you had before the shutdowns.

Ok, but to say nothing happened to those people, like their life didnt change because of their decisions, is flat out incorrect.
The difference is, their situation changed because of their decisions. Not because the world was out to get them for being anti-vax, or because of any paranoid crap they wanted to peddle about government control, or because the rules were actually unfair, but because they chose to go against best practices, and then they became upset that their actions had consequences while screaming "my body my choice" without a hint of self-awareness.

Or would it be society's fault if they lost their jobs because they shouted racial slurs at a customer, or stole from their place of employment, or assaulted a coworker? They had the opportunity to act intelligently and abide by rules they were given.

It was just a perfect excuse to go through the pretty decent sized backlog I already had. I did notice other gamers across the world pretty much insta-deleteted the 3DS (all models), used PS4 and switch supply that was around during the pandemic.

I had persona 5 royal, FF7 remake and RE3 remake already pre-ordered before everything shut down, so when gamestop was doing this thing where curb-side pick-up was still available they was actually letting us pick up the games early/as soon as they came in stock. I had my persona 5 royal limited edition sitting in it's box (I was playing through vanilla persona 5 royal and getting it's platinum trophy) like 4 days before its release date, and was playing both FF7 remake and RE3 remake a day before they released.

I did buy nioh 2 digital right before persona 5 royal came out so those new games lasted awhile throughout the shutdown.
