Rebirth is graphically worse than Remake in everything except character models. Some textures are actually worse than PS3 games.

I don't think the concern was with the environments.... I think it had to do with straying away from the original story.

The only thing graphically impressive about the original game was the CG cutscenes and prerendered backgrounds. The character models were dogshit

There only so much you can with grassy plains, and FF7 isn't a environmentally interesting game compared to 8,9, 10 and even 13

I'm well aware of that. The point is that its fine to change around things and add side missions, but keep the base story the same. If Aerith doesn't die when she's supposed to, that takes a lot of motivation away from the party to hunt down Sephiroth.

The graphics aren't my thing, but it's not that alone that ruined the remake for me. If the rest was good, I could try and deal with it.

It's not "Graphics = good game" It's a small example of the care and effort going into recreating something almost 30 years in the future, utilizing the technology available to build and flesh out these worlds. The environment being pretty is only a fraction of the story that image tells you. Being free to explore and inhabit a more believable world is just a very small example of the development that went into this game.

Y'all are literally the examples of the attitude this image is addressing lol. That snarky "gamer" mentality to just dismiss everything and be so negative and pessimistic.

I look at this image and think "Man, how fucking lucky are we. Look how far we've come. I can't wait to jump back into that world and see what everything looks like today."

Reducing this down to an argument about graphics. And y'all's biggest complaint is they've added more gameplay, story, world, and expanded on the characters?

I wouldn't say it was trash so much as just massively, massively overblown. I was playing FF7 in 1997 just like most older people that still hang around here and thought the game was cool for its time, but I'd easily admit the game was easy as fuck took no real strategy whatsoever, which to me is boring in a rpg game (only enemy I could say really tripped me up going in blind was missing number....I didn't get the physical/magical thing for like 2 fights so "lost blow" ruined my shit, lol). Like you could completely ignore the purple support materia and be no worse for it, and once you get double cut and slash-all you just face-roll the controller and get it all done with. There was a lot of jrpgs in the time frame that was doing turn based much better in comparison. (Breath of fire 3 being one of my personal favorites. The party formations, master system and dragon gene system was too fun).

Actually makes me question some people's taste in games when they keep hating being baddies and hating new action/ATB system remake/rebirth uses. A system that encourages you to constantly swap between cloud n' the party and use their skills in a way that plays off one another for the stagger system (aka strategy), and actually use all your different types of materia to make the fights play out as smooth as possible...coming up with materia combinations to deal with the hard mode no item restrictions. Its the more "rpg" I ever got out of the final fantasy series aside from getting into some of the FF10 post-game dark aeon stuff or something like final fantasy tactics.

it's why i bounced off the game. every time i try to go back to it and progress, the game has more minigames for me to complete before each story beat. rebirth does not want you to beat it.

How can something be ruined if it was never good to begin with?

Definitely agree that Grandia did ATB better; but FF7 was still more fun than generic action RPG.

yea the first pic feels artificial and small. like i know ill be able to run up against the invisible wall pretty easily.

I went ahead and looked up spoilers for 'that moment' when Rebirth first released, and, uh...I sincerely hope it plays out better in-game than it does in synopsis. Because it's not terribly far off from a jokey prediction I had years ago when I first read up on Remake's plot.

Most of the stuff the remakes have expanded upon has been pretty good. Now, all the extreme story changes, Ill wait til the conclusion to see where theyre going with it. So far the games have been pretty damn enjoyable.

again, if you want the base story the same, play the original. this is a REMAKE, and if the creators want to take the plot in a different direction they can. I would hope they would cause playing a remake for 100+ hours just to get the same story would be pretty redundant...

I posted a pic that shows a very small highlight of the advancement of video games compared to the original. The intention was to call out the pessimistic, whiny gamers who cant appreciate nuffin. They have come in droves.
