Nope.

I like to think that people with radar detectors are the ones who believe public roads / highways / interstates are their personal racetracks.

It varies by municipality. Some get along, some don't. I work in one where we gel with the cops thankfully

No, they're illegal where I live. Funnily enough though, most cars these days have built in navigation which comes equipped with a warning signal.

There's also an app you can download on your phone that does the exact same thing as a radar detector, witht he added bonus it also informs about traffic jams and accidents and stuff

oh? never heard at all about the app. So most cell phones have that tech built in that can use it? didn't even think it did. What state is this though? i thought it was usually legal.

Google maps will sometimes warn you if cops are tagging, and then there's Waze but it's reliant on people reporting.

how much was separate ticket, pts for the detector? iirc if not illegal they give you extra fines if detector discovered. Googled it and it seems most know by you suddenly braking if they manually use radar. Why else would you brake at that exact same time?

I used to have one for a few years when I first started driving, but overtime I kinda stopped caring.

I've never gotten a speeding ticket for actually speeding. The only speed related ticket I've ever gotten was for an accident on ice when I first started driving.

I was basically told that the ticket was mandatory for accidents unless I want to spend the time and money in court proving that there was nothing I could have done to not get in an accident/wasn't speeding somehow. Even if there was no cop to witness either and they don't actually investigate that shit over a ticket.

My GPS has that but isn't always accurate. Think it relies on people reporting a speed trap. Idk how to do it myself but I know I've been asked if a speed trap was still present.

I've noticed them in Missouri and Colorado.

They're not everywhere, only specific (dangerous/large) intersections. In those cases, I'm ambivalent at best to their presence. It doesn't seem to be a money milking scheme, literally just a way to (re)enforce safety at an intersection that historically has had bad accidents or a (bad) accident would cause a pretty massive delay for traffic.

Generally though I'm against speed and redlight cameras specifically because they are/were used primarily as a revenue-generating source.

We could really use red light cameras in St. Louis. On N. Broadway, people are constantly speeding, driving in the bike lane, running red lights, and doing all three at once. A poor teenage girl lost both legs because of some jackass in an Audi couldnt be bothered to slow down for a red light.
