Recently just finished GoWII for the first time since it came out really and I honestly can't believe how good that game still is. It holds up amazingly well graphics wise for a Ps2 game and still has some gorgeous environments with my favorites being pretty much the entirety of The Island of Creation.

what about y'all?

The "Dad of War" thing always made me laugh. I've never been a GoW fan, never played any of them. However, I'd try the latest two before the original style games. I just like the more realistic styling of the newer ones.

Ragnarok was such a slog to get through, especially the Atreus bits. And I loved the previous game too.

The original trilogy, especially 2 is fantastic. That's not nostalgia talking either as I played the trilogy for the first time a couple of years ago.

I got a good portion through 2018 then got distracted off on replaying the original trilogy lol <_<

So I haven't finished 2018 or even played Ragnarok.

I beat the original series, sans Ascension (got like 1/3 of the way through and got bored/frustrated with the mechanics, so gave up. Also it looked pretty fucking bad streaming it on PS5 and I didn't want to pop it into the PS3 and catch back up lol).

the original series was always fun but were mostly one-off kind of games to me. 2018 was fun enough but I could never shake the feeling that something was bogging it down.

I should get back around to it sometime this year.

My mom I think liked the og's more, but loved the new ones as well. I hated the og ones but like the new ones

Kratos just got on my nerves in the og's

I think both games are indicative of the time they were made. You couldn't make a game like GoW2 nowadays without it being considered extremely silly (and all the QTEs would be fucking annoying).

I feel very fondly about the original games but don't think I would enjoy them much again.

Kratos just got on my nerves in the og's

Kratos in 1 was okay.

Kratos in 2 jumped the shark. Also he really held the idiot ball when he drained his powers into the sword of Olympus. like, really? I know there was a story reason for it but it's so obvious what comes next that even edgelord Kratos should have known something was up.

Kratos in 3 just had to stick the landing on the other side of the shark.

2018 and Ragnarok are both individually better than any of the OG edgy games.

Original > reboot for me.

If I boot up a gow game, I want to hear Kratos briefly explain why he's pissed and going to rip everyrhing in his path to shreds and then, well, rip everything in his path to shreds.

If I boot up a gow game, I don't want to listen to Kratos bitching about his son's dog for 10 minutes only to watch a boo hoo scene 3 minutes later, another boo hoo part yet 5 minustes later and when you finally get to a boss, watch that end with yet more boo hoo stuff.

I appreciate the newer GOW games for the interesting direction they took Kratos character in, but I always preferred the OG trilogy. I really enjoyed the spectacle and sense of scale that I think wasnt as effective in the newer games. And I honestly find the OG gameplay more engaging than the newer games, but the newer games are fine in their own right.

OG. Don't care about his dad era, the gameplay is slower and more boring, with too much useless exposition. It also feels less epic and has less bosses

I didn't have access to the originals as a child since I was poor and had to choose my games carefully. They never interested me enough to go after them over other games. I love the reboot though.

The trilogy is somewhere between good and really great.

The 2018 God of War is just a masterpiece.

Ragnarok is mostly 2018 God of War, but with a bratty Atreus beyond annoying. Damn puberty. Still really great.

I just always thought of the og as epic beat em ups, and they didnt really try to be more than that. Fun, single serving instances. Sure there was a story but who cared, just get me to the next mobs to tear apart.

Rebooted > Originals

Ragnarok was definitely weaker than 2018, but was an improvement gameplay wise. They just really rushed through Ragnarok.

Originals

Not a fan of the gameplay of the recent entries. Also, the latter game especially had a bad case of characters never (hyperbole) shutting the fuck up.

When I was a teen I just loved playing an edgy game doing stuff I couldn't do in many other games, which is why the OG Trilogy will always have a place in my heart. However, I have a feeling if I go back to playing them I would get pissed off at Kratos and find him grating and getting on my nerves imo. Not to say it doesn't have its moment (the quick time event when you have to push your daughter away hits pretty hard), but overall I don't know how well it would age for me, story wise.

The Dad of War games are just masterpieces imo, with that said Ragnarok third act does go from 0 to 100 too fast and should've been a whole third game. But otherwise my experience with both was nothing but positive.
