How bad is it for a parent to smoke cannabis in front of their child (17 years or younger)? Is it worse than drinking alcohol in front of their child?

Depends on how often and how they're doing it. If they're smoking in front of their kids at all then yeah that's bad. If they're dry herb vaping daily like an addict then that's also bad, just like somebody getting obliterated from alcohol every night

Otherwise if it's the equivalent of having 1-2 glasses of wine here and there to unwind (not daily) then who cares. Virginia is a joke state when it comes to marijuana though because I live close enough to the state line to hear about all of the Glenn Youngkin shenanigans and also how they have had rec weed longer than Maryland but you still can't actually stroll into a dispensary and buy it (same with DC without a medical card)

https://www.wric.com/news/politics/capitol-connection/youngkin- vetoes-bill-designed-to-protect-parents-who-lawfully-use-or-possess-marijuana/

Alcohol is a worse drug though so whatever the approach they use for parents who drink at home (if it even exists without domestic abuse or child neglect being involved) should be the same for marijuana

That's a good answer that I agree with 100%.

I don't think parents should drink or use tobacco around their kids either. My dad was a daily drinker. He'd pose my brother with empty (hopefully) beer bottles in his mouth for pictures as a toddler. We both turned into raging alcoholics. I don't think he'll ever quit.

Doesn't DC have a workaround? Like, they cannot legally sell recreational cannabis products for revenue, but they can sell you a cute little pouch for like $300, then give you a half ounce of weed as a thank you gift for the customer.

I'm assuming that because this is being compared to alcohol in the poll that it means using it recreationally?

Yup. The grey market there is silly. Selling bumper stickers and bandanas for $50 and then getting your "gift" of weed.

Yeah that's exactly it. Rec weed is legal but it can't be sold only gifted. So it either has to be a "bonus" for buying something else, or you can buy a medical card from a dispensary directly (just typing this sounds stupid as hell) and buy it there without anything else. Maryland has rec weed but the prices are ass. The real workaround to all of this though is to just go the online thca route due to the Farm Bill loophole which doesn't involve anything shady and can even be mailed through USPS (I just double checked my last order from months ago and it had a USPS tracking number)

tldr the US is very stupid when it comes to marijuana. When you apply heat to THCA it becomes regular THC

Shouldn't be done near the child where they could breathe it in. However, the mere act of doing it isn't what's bad, it's whether or not the parent displays an unhealthy relationship with the drug that counts.

I don't know their kid's ages, but my wife works with a couple who are growing a marijuana plant in their garage with 2 young kids in the house. They like weed.

My son is almost 14 and I don't smoke in front of him, in fact I'm still hiding it from him.

Not forever though, personally I think long term that hiding it from him is worse than being honest about vices.

Same level as alcohol/cigarettes. Maybe slightly better because it's not as physically addictive, but I don't know the science (on parents who smoke marijuana).

I think getting intoxicated on anything isn't a good idea unless you have another responsible sober adult around incase something comes up with the kid.

He stays with me on weekends. I burn scented candles when I smoke during the week and open the windows to air it out, then I stow everything in a basket on the top shelf of my closet and don't get it out during the weekend.

I disapprove but who am I to judge anyone

I'll judge more harshly the younger the child is though.

At 17 it's more disapproval for then setting a bad example

But at 5 or so that's really messed up

I wouldn't say they should have their children taken away though. I look at it similar to people smoking cigarettes and/or drinking in front of their children. Still very harmful and bad but I don't see the state taking away their children from them for that so I don't think they should for weed either
