Yes, but to be marked cleared someone else has to beat it.

LilKirbs will probably beat Trimming the Herbs before long. Don't know who else is grinding it.

Trimming the Herbs is an interesting final level. Not particularly flashy/cool looking to play or watch yet definitely hard.

This level will end up being the one that becomes the main villain of all the video documentaries, though.

Never underestimate the human spirit when it is driven by pure will and spite (to make sure the creator won't be having the servers shutdown with that BS not cleared). This was amazing, lmao.

I thought servers got shuttered months ago. I remember a streamer spending literal years streaming him trying to pass his own created level to get it uploaded and didn't get it in time, but did succeed in passing a few months ago.

They only disabled the ability to upload levels. You can still play the levels, but the servers are shutting down entirely April 8th.

There's only one level left uncleared, it's very likely someone will beat it before the servers shut down. Pretty sure way harder levels have been beaten, this level just hasn't gotten that much attention until now.

Truly sucks. People spent years of their lives making these levels and that'll soon vanish

I don't know what it means for the levels that are already there but I think Pretendo is making fan servers or something. Hell, people play Mario Kart Wii online in 2024, there's usually around 100 people online at any given time and can exceed 200 during certain times like the weekends. These games have a long life ahead of them still lol.

Trimming the Herbs is a short enough level and (now) has enough attention piled upon it that I'm sure it will be beaten before the cutoff.

From what I understand, the level requires several very precise, very close to frame perfect tricks. It's only about 15 seconds long, but it's an extremely brutal 15 seconds.

That said, the reason it's still left is mostly that it's annoying. Harder levels have already been cleared, and with the whole 0% crew working on it, seeing as how it's the only level left now, there's no doubt in my mind it'll be cleared. Probably within a few days.

I saw a video of a level called Beast Needle a few weeks ago and it was crazy. It was just loads of precision platforming through spikes in SMB1.

There are rom hacks that are pretty hard. All of the Grand Poo Worlds, kaizo mario, plenty of good ones. Check out BarbarousKing or GrandPooBear, they will show you some hard mario levels

Just Pretend Nintendo doesnt care about its userbase. Their network never really worked well.

Funny enough, someone other than chomp has beaten Trials of Death. Basically, they were able to recreate the level and beat it. It happened a few weeks ago.

Based on that... one could argue TTH is actually harder...

It was uploaded using a glitch. The uploader just kept the code secret until he beat it legitimately.

Yeah, there a lot of MM1 levels that cannot be beaten because of glitches that were patched out.

I disagree with this. Most of the actual, absolute hardest levels were cleared years ago, when they were first uploaded. There is a reason you don't see any Panga levels in the uncleared list, despite him consistently making some of the toughest levels in all of Mario. People actually enjoy his levels, and found great pride chewing through them and beating them. The actual hardest levels never made it anywhere close to this list.

In fact, watching various streamers the last month or so, most of the final levels were actually pretty "easy". They spent about 30-60 minutes on them before the clear. Barely had to spend any time in the editor or practicing. Because the levels left were decidedly not the hardest, they were just random level creators that put out their levels with no fanfare, that then got lost in the 100 man algorithm, or they were excessively tedious consistency levels that nobody bothered wasting their time on until now.

Even here at the end, thabeast was grinding out The Last Dance (the second to last level to be beat) for 20 something hours. The guy that beat it grinded it out for about 10 hours before he beat it. Between the two of them, they played about 30 hours. Both of them have said that they don't think that Herbs is necessary the hardest, just the most annoying, least fun to play, so they picked Last Dance to try and beat first. Because here's the rub. If you're gonna spend 20-30 hours grinding out a level, if it's at least fun, you can keep yourself motivated through the process.

Trimming the Herbs is not the hardest, it's just at the end of the list because it is excessively annoying to grind out, and most people opted for the funner levels first. That's it.

Now, it is a very, very challenging level. There's no denying that. But it's probably not the hardest all-time. It's just the more annoying, tedious level that remained.

I'm pretty sure this isn't even considered the hardest level made by this specific creator.

The level was beatable when it was uploaded. He just couldn't do it before they cut the servers so he glitched it to upload it. The Trails of Death he beat on stream is the exact same level he just did it legitimately.

Yeah LilKirbs just showed us on stream, it's some level called Bombs5 that's way longer.

you can download any level and look at it in the editor to see all hidden blocks, which doors connect to what, etc.

so a level that is only that is actually very easy as far as this project is concerned
