Sorry to hear that. Was there are particular reason for the cut? It doesn't sound like you saw it coming.

I'm sorry, that is extremely fucked but unfortunately not surprising. Had it happen to me once but I was only there 4 months so not nearly as bad. Hope you find some place else soon that treats you right.

Right now I have two options:

Take a different position in the company that will offer similar pay but the new position isn't really what I want to do.

Go back to my old position and give up my salary increase I got a year and a half ago (my current position is my old pay plus a premium).

If you take the different position and don't like it can you go back to your old position?

Both of those options suck.

Can you take the first and start looking externally?

This feels like the play - keep your finances stable while you look for something better

I'm gonna look but in my area of Michigan it's gonna be hard to find this payrate again. I'm already traveling 40 miles one way because it pays very well.

Take the first option while simultaneously searching for something else.

Ugh I got in my car and it really started to hit me.

This job had actually represented the most stable time period of my life where I felt super appreciated and managed to move up to a project lead very quickly.

This new position would put me back in a technician role.

Yeah these past 3 days back as a technician just let me know I ain't got it in me anymore to do this type of work.

Going from genuinely happy to be working to dreading it in the morning sucks.

Are you considering relocation? That's certainly an option you might have to weigh if it means you enjoy your job.

If not, you may want to go back to your old position, because what's more valuable: Money or happiness? This is your decision, though. Only you know what your financial picture looks like, what kind of jobs you can apply for (and which you can get), and whether you can find a way to get through this. Really sorry it's happening to you. I know you'll get through it just fine!

Did you have no forewarning? And why did they eliminate your position?

So the good...ish news is that the past week in this new position went okay. Not what I want to do long term but now I'm no longer scrambling to find a new job and can take my time looking at jobs outside the company.

Helps that a) I happen to be pretty good at what I'm doing now and b) the team they put me on I get along with very, very well so at the very least I'm not going to be completely miserable in this position.

I'm confused, did they eliminate the position because they found out that while you were on vacation, the duties of your position weren't actually necessary or could be done by others?

Nah because they removed the two other project leads. They just thought that the positions weren't helping with company goals.

I just had no idea they were planning this for a while behind the scenes. No inkling when I left for vacation at the end of February.
