here in America we don't help them. at all. we treat them like criminals and lock them up, then put charges on their permanent record that ensures finding any employment once they're released will be nearly impossible.

In the US it's usually either jail (if they get caught) or rehab. However I've even going to rehab a lot of them relapse. And jail or prison doesn't help either. Considering that most prisons have a drug trade too.

Apply for a spot? rehab facilities only have so many open slots. you basically ask for a spot and get put on a waitlist if none are available. i've been to rehab before, they do a 'pre screening' where they ask you questions about what you use, how often, how it impacts your life, etc to see if rehab is appropriate for you. Nirvanas_Nox posted... In rehab centers. Some are actually pretty decent but most are total trash and don't help the people who go there. i found them helpful both in terms of stopping in the short term and for learning tools that help with long term success. my problem was that i didn't want to get sober and i was only in rehab because other people wanted me to be. when *i* finally wanted to stop drinking, it happened. --- I hope something good happens to you today Playing: God of War: Ragnarok ... In Japan they socially ostracize you and send you to jail. Drug usage is extremely low, but the penalties are extremely harsh and not what you would consider "help".

Huh? Where they giving out more drugs to try n help addicts get better?Yep, that's the Netherlands for you. Back in the late 90s- early 00s there would be what was called the 'Methadon Bus' where heroin addicts could get free methadon, which apearantly has a rush similair to heroin which would be given out freely. To aid you in the way things work here considering drugs, we were the first country in the world where smoking weed was not punishable, but even to this day, coffeeshops, the shops where weed is sold here, are not allowed to buy weed, nor are they allowed to have more than 5 plants themselves or have more than 500 grams in house (which is basically nothing for any half decent one). The idea behind it in the 1960s was to lower crime rates, but with the above, anyone with more than half a braincell could figure out this does nothing to stop illegal growing or selling of weed, so yeah, that's the Netherlands for you --- There is no need for gulags for those that consent to their own chains - Thomas Williams ... I was in outpatient rehab after an alcohol related incident. It honestly did nothing for me at all. The instructor or whatever just played these old VHS tapes that appeared to be from the early 90s. Did that for 6 weeks and felt no different afterwards.
