People just assume TikTok is run by the CCP but they're not even headquartered in China anymore. Their main offices are in Singapore and LA. There is zero evidence of China exerting influence on them.

There are plenty of privacy and security issues but none of those issues are any worse on TikTok than other social media platforms.

It's absolutely just racist scapegoating. Don't get me wrong, I don't like the idea of people's data getting taken by the Chinese government. But I also don't like the idea that my data is taken by anyone. Tiktok is doing nothing that Instagram, YouTube, the Taco Bell app or even gamefaqs.gamespot.com isn't doing. They all take our data and use it to their delight. If the government actually gave a shit they'd do something to protect our information from everyone. But of course, that would mean companies would make less money so they'll just target Tiktok instead.

The sad part is internet needs who are going along with it because they just inherently hate things that teenage girls like. It's absolute boomer behavior.

I wish there was a way to like test or gauge if someone is mentally well enough to handle social media.

Like, I use it no problem. I love looking at funny memes, news related to my interests, discussing stuff I like with others who have the same interests, sharing funny posts with the guys, and of course, looking at hot chicks. Its not difficult.

But Im also for the most part, content with my life, so I dont use it to compare my life to others, and I definitely dont doomscroll about shit that I cant control.

The US is just afraid of competition. It's also why the US has been ramping up tariffs or even outright banning Chinese products. I remember when the media were screaming about how bad trump's trade war was with China, however biden has not only continued the policy, but has been pushing it harder. I think both are wrong to have pushed this trade war. For example, the cheaper EVs would help with climate change goals and reduce prices for consumers (which, given the ridiculous prices of vehicles now, would be huge), but instead there's a 25+% tariff on Chinese EVs and they're considering increasing that tariff.

No, it is all fear mongering, US companies sell our data all the time and/or lose it to hackers because of poor security practices. So to make an issue out of that is laughable, at best. As I already stated it is also fishy as hell that so many congress members are invested in Meta and the bill they just sent up gives Tik Tok 5 months(?) to sell before any action is taken.
