I don't wanna be a rockstar ok actually I do but I would at least like to learn to play some songs and maybe impress my young children with a skill that isn't totally boring

nah. I teach guitar and have had a lot of students who started in their 40s/50s. prob around half, with the other half between 7 and 25.

You should learn guitar. I also recommend you pick up a couple cheap plastic recorders (soprano and alto) for yourself and the kids to mess around with.

Also its something you can pass to others like relatives and friends, if they show interest. You could be the one that helps them out from your own experiences.

This right here. My nephew is playing now and we bond over it.

And I totally wont use that as an excuse to buy myself new gear so I can give him the hand me downs!

No. I've been helping one of my friends learn over the last year or so and he's now 32. The only reason you wouldn't be able to learn guitar is if you literally lack any sort of motor skills.
