Humanizing cops is how society lets their guard down and forgets that:

1. They have NO legal obligation to protect you

2. They have NO interest in protecting you

3. They HATE you

Cops exist primarily to feed the city coffers and generate revenue. They are not your friends, they are not community servants, and they cause far more problems and anguish than they solve/prevent

They're still people, and I say that as someone who usually despises them.

This cop did a good thing. No need to take away from that.

No news on the motorcyclist besides that he was going over 100 mph and died on the scene.

As always, notice how other developed countries dont have this problem. We in Australia dont have cops routinely beating black men to death, or unloading entire magazines into someone sleeping in a car because they woke up too quickly, or because you kicked their door in with a no knock warrant almost like you wanted the excuse.

I don't agree with the label either. Some people just mindlessly parrot it. But I believe that if you sat down each person and asked them "do you disagree with the concept of police as an institution, or do you just have a problem with the misuse of authority and the fact they almost always get away with it?" the majority would go with the latter.

But that's pure speculation and thus not really something we can debate.

I'm not sure if internal affairs generally has a good reputation or not, but it's all moot if their genuine findings are sent to the DA's office as usual. The people investigating you may not be your buddies, but the people prosecuting you based on that investigation are.

Unless the system is smart enough to realize that issue and handles internal affairs-based prosecutions with the appropriate nuance, which it may very well be. I'm not an expert on the subject.
