Yeah I personally think law enforcement needs checks and balances. Like a outside entity that's the police of police and they are properly incentived (not sure if that's a word) to bust bad cops. I know it would sound like discrimination but I'd put a requirement that only a minimal amount of former cops could hire on but they should have some to be like advisors on how police departments operate

One of the big problems is conflict of interest. When a cop is on the hook for something, it's the same prosecution they need to keep buddy-buddy with deciding whether or not to charge them and with what. Any other industry would call that a clear conflict of interest. Heck even the judicial system takes that sort of thing seriously - if my father was a judge he absolutely would not be permitted to hear a case involving me in any way. But for some reason the police-DA's office relationship isn't considered a problem.
