Joaquin Phoenix was incredible, and we got some nice memes out of it, but that's it.

There were still many scenes I thought were, unnecessary or even redundant.

7/10 for me. Great acting but the story was all too predictable. The trope of "I was wronged so I have the right to be evil" isn't endearing to me and it's a stable for every villain movie now.

7/10. Great performances and direction, but there have been so many movies like this before that have been done better.

It's like Todd Phillips just watched some Paul Schrader movies and thought "what if The Joker was the main character in this?".

It doesn't even mesh well as a hypothetical Joker origin because everyone knows who he is at the end.

I said 7, but I think 8 is also perfectly acceptable.

It's 100% a completely unrelated movie that got a "DC" skin slapped onto it, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing.

There are a couple great moments, but really Joaquin Phoenix is absolutely carrying the whole movie, and you can tell the movie isn't that great around him.

It needed to decide if it was a movie about mental illness, or a supervillain movie, but not both.
There was simply nothing fun about the movie, Arthur, or the world he inhabited.
I get that the point was that the Joker was mentally ill, but it was too brow beating and realistic on that front to ever want to watch it again.

This was definitely disgusting, I'm sure the drama brought them tons of paying customers.

I personally hated the movie, it was so trite and boring. I thought it was funny when my dad and my nephew rented it and both families got bored and decided to watch something else.

Probably 8.5

I really want to give it a 9 just because it feels completely fresh and unique within the comic book movie landscape, but it is basically your run-of-the-mill Martin Scorsese-style of film (which is still very good)

I don't think they mean Batman villains. It's the fact that so much of the movie is so far removed from Batman lore that it didn't really need it to begin with.
