I'm honestly amazed at how bad of a name that is - feel bad for the marketing folks who were probably forced to let that go through knowing it was so terrible

Also you really gotta wonder how these guys are feeling when almost all of Riot's extended media properties have just gotten canned.

They're a huge name, but I don't think this game's success should be as assumed as it would have been, say, a year ago. It's an extremely competitive market right now, might be one of the worst times to try and pump up a new fighting game.

eh, i dont think that should be too big a deal. the extended media properties were essentially riot funding external studies to make single player games, vs this being an internal project that works with their core F2P + paid cosmetics model.

and i think being 2v2 is likely to be a massive piece for establishing a space in the market, especially for casuals who want to play games with their friends. while i dont think its officially been announced, i assume its very likely that its F2P which is also a massive advantage. even multiversus with very little polish or depth had insane player numbers

horrible title name to be sure, but i think the game has so much going for it that it wont matter in the slightest, especially if they get approved to release the game in China. Sales from three Ahri skins probably funds a full year of development tbh

If it's F2P then that does change things. It's pretty much only competing with Granblue at that front, right?

This is also their first game on consoles though, so maybe monetization would be different?

but until we hear otherwise i think its a pretty safe assumption itll be F2P, like every other game.

I don't think 2XKO is that bad of a name? Like it's clearly something some exec came up with and forced through but it's just regular bad, not uniquely bad.

wild rift has been out a couple years, but its only on mobile. I believe the userbase is pretty negligible in the west but i think its massively popular across the East, especially China and SEA

its already been confirmed f2p. nothing about how itll be monetized though. skins are to be expected and probably can buy characters as well as unlocking

hey, if everyone is using acronyms to talk about games online, making engagement metrics more difficult, you may as well make the game's title impossible to shorten. this is the kind of modern day convenience we've always needed. the future is now!

Are there a lot of fighting games scheduled for 2025? I feel like 2023 was much more competitive.

It actually looks pretty cool I'm shocked.

Bad name but the animation is great and the way the hit animations flow look such that I could see a good fighter there

2XKO is actually a bit laborious to say with that repeated hard syllable in the middle. But you cant really shorten it to 2X since that is a common abbreviation of the seminal game of the entire genre (Super Turbo is known as Super Street Fighter 2 X in Japan)

Considering Riot is actually terrible at marketing and taking advantage of their IP and continues to be successful despite itself it's not terribly shocking.

Yeah, reminder every single game out of Riot Forge, ALL OF THEM; got shadowdropped and only one got even a little marketing. It's shockingly awful actually.

Both of those are still better. You can just say 'Under Night' or 'Melty Blood'. Those names are fine, and people will know you're referring to the newest version. 2XKO's full name looks bad, and the shortened version of 2X just feels...lame.

The best comment I saw about it is that it looks like it was named by Elon Musk.

yeah Under Night In Birth and Melty Blood are at least names (the version names are uh a bit much sometimes). 2xko is like the model number of a Gamer Chair or some shit
