I don't see how I can rate Metal Gear Solid 4 out of 10 anything other than a 4 out of 10. Doesn't seem like the devs had much faith in their game!

I gave it 8. The highs are incredible all time moments. The flaws are are clear enough to keep it from the top. I had an absolute blast playing it back in the day and flaws becoming more apparent as you look back takes nothing away from that experience. Replaying the franchises a few years ago, still had a blast.

Some other fun facts around this:
  • While MGS1 and 3 also have very high ratings, MGS4 is still above them by 0.01 points.
  • If you exclude the duplicates for Chrono Trigger, Persona 4, and Ocarina of Time, MGS4 is actually in 11th place, which sadly still isn't top 10 but only just barely.

Or a variation on this one: include only the top game of each franchise in order to get a few more games out of the way. Then the top 10 games are:
  1. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
  2. Chrono Trigger
  3. Persona 4 Golden
  4. Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
  5. Resident Evil 4
  6. Final Fantasy VI
  7. Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate
  8. Super Mario World
  9. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots
  10. Xenoblade Chronicles
Truly an all-star list of games + a few questionable "4" titles.
