In-N-Out's competition would be more like Five Guys because that's what people compare it to mostly.

They would be wrong because it's two different market shares. Five guys is 5 times the price of 1 In n Out hamburger.

It isn't about price in those comparisons. It's about quality.

Midwest has Culver's and Freddy's and Shake Shack over toward the east, all really good burgers

Yeah there are specific markets for Five Guys level of money, the "gourmet burger" one. In n Out is the "cheap but high quality" market.

I won't deny people will make comparisons like that, but I feels it's unfair and dishonest imo. I live in Cali and most people I know who live here are able to make the distinction between Five Guy burgers and In n Out, the biggest being the price.

I used to love to go to Five Guys back when the burgers at Times Square and 34th Street used to cost $8 or so dollars several years ago. But they're no longer worth it at $11-$13. I only go there once every few months now for their massive portions of fries.

Better off going to a proper restaurant if I'm going to pay that much for a burger.

Honestly they are probably the only fries I can eat that aren't well done flavor wise. I would love to try theirs well done one day though.

When I was a senior in High School, a new one opened up in my hometown. My friend group and I ditched school and went to get burgers.... we sat there for two hours, waiting to even do our order... By the time we got our food, it was cold and I didn't enjoy it. It sort of tainted it for me.

I went a couple of times since, especially when I went to CSUF, but it was just ok.

Now, Tommy's!

In n Out is definitely overrated considering how much people hype it and get jealous about it not being in most states. Their burgers are decent but man their fries are soooo bad.

When I lived in the Bay Area, the Habit was way better and only like $2 more for a meal. Dunno if they are still there, if they are they probably charge like $30 for a meal now instead of like $6.

Habit sucks because they put mayo and shredded lettuce on the burger.

I'm sure you could ask them to hold the mayo, or you could just go to Burger King.

Southern Californians seem obsessed with mayo, it's like the default burger condiment for them. Went to some hole in the wall places in LA and the burger would come with just mayo, and you had to put on your own ketchup and mustard.

it really is though. People like to shit on 5 guys cause of the price tag, which, fair enough. But to say its not a higher quality product than base level fast food, which is what in n out is, is just nonsense.

born in Cali, In-n-Out wins on flavor and value over so many other chains.

their fries, at least the local one, is kinda meh though.

Will admit the best burger I've ever had from a chain is Laguna Burger in New Mexico. Only tried it once, ten years ago, but damn it was delish.
