If you order through the restaurants the delivery fee is 7 bucks almost. If you order through a food delivery app its usually free if you do over 12 bucks.

I still just go pick up the food because its either pay the money or have some moron not be able to find my address and my pizza is cold

Same as all those 'admin fees', 'service charges', 'unique font on our menu charges', 'profit margins charges', 'booking fees', 'handling fees', 'printing fees (for online tickets lmao)', and so on.

Customers are mugs, but they pay it and people defend it, so it works.

Pretty much. It's all "convenience fees"

Or rather the "come on seriously brah, we both know you're too lazy to cook or drive to the restaurant, so we're just gonna charge you whatever we want cause let's face it, you'd rather pay it than put on pants and come down here." fee

Exactly. A lot of us can remember before this "delivery fee" even existed. It's just another way to nickel and dime the consumer, a way for the company to eat up what used to be the delivery worker's tip and then the delivery worker might or might not get tipped, but the company's all

Stores give money per delivery to make up for that. Some stores its like $2 per, some upwards of $4 per delivery.

delivery fee, either whole thing or part of it, is for insurance costs which can be insanely expensive for stores that have in-house delivery.

some places will give half of the delivery fee to the driver to help cover gas or people who do not tip.

It does not go to the gas tank. It is not a maintenance fund for the vehicles. It is not for insurance policies. It does nothing but go directly into the restaurants pay, CE loves spreading misinformation about tipping all the time.

I'll bite the bait. Service charge, delivery fee, Grubhub/Uber Eats "Processing" fees, etc are tacked on extras that the company or service takes 100% of. The tip, explicitly outlined as your "tip" option, goes to the driver.

If your delivery fee is $5 and you tip $0, the driver gets $0.

You say that while spreading misinformation lmao. I was the GM at a restaurant for a while, and the restaurant got exactly 0% of the fee. 75% went towards insurance costs, 25% went towards the driver. The store had to spend additional money out of its own pocket to cover the rest of the insurance cost.

Not with the POS systems I used GMing at my last two restaurants. Toast had a flat insurance package and encouraged owners to keep the fee for "rainy days."

Aloha used it in tandem with their payroll services to flatten out waiter taxes on tips. In neither case did the drivers see a penny, but that could have been struck out by shitty owners rather than explicit policy by the providing services.

That's exactly what matters since that's the subject we're talking about lol. We've got people in here arguing over whether delivery charges were always standard, whether the delivery drivers get paid twice etc. At what point do you take a step back and think to yourself "hmm maybe the situation wasn't age-related but geographical?" There are large areas of the US where it took many years longer to start this practice, do you want me to congratulate you on getting ripped off sooner?

TC isn't wrong, a lot of city/metropolitan areas will debut crap first. I am not an alt.

But this topic should also start and end with the answer to the question. If you're prompted to tip it's separate, since the fees don't go to the driver ever.
