Yeah, I'm tipping my hand with this one (i.e. too old to be on CE). But, yes, I remember the day from 30 years ago.

I watched the Godzilla cartoons. They were not normally shown on TNT, but were brought out for this one special occasion. It was my only time seeing them until I caught them on YouTube a few years ago. Then I went to my grandmother and grandfather's house for a family get-together. After that, I came back home and watched the remaining movies of the marathon.

I miss cheesy monster movie marathons. TNT and Sci-Fi Channel would play these things pretty much every holiday. I was tempted to recreate the experience by watching the films on Max and YouTubing some 90s commercials, but I had other things to do. It's still a three-day Presidents Day weekend. Maybe I'll cheat and relive the experience tomorrow or Sunday.

I remember getting so excited for Jan de Bont's upcoming Godzilla adaptation. Then Roland Emmerich turned it into an adaptation of The Beast from 20000 Fathoms.

Comet has been running Godzilla marathons on the last Sunday of each month for about a year now, maybe longer. Next week, they'll have King of the Monsters (the US release of the original, not the 2019 Monsterverse one), Godzilla vs. Megalon and Son of Godzilla, plus Destroy All Planets (Gamera vs. Viras, a pretty poor transfer). They used to run a longer marathon, starting around noon into the middle of the night, but I guess they're drawing more viewers for X-Files reruns to switch over to that in the evening. They also simulcast their channel on the web.

You can also mix things up with Pluto.tv with their 24/7 Godzilla channel. The channel runs most of the Showa films (everything but KK vs. G, plus Rodan, Mothra and recently added the US version of the original and War of the Gargantuas). To differentiate from what Max has, they also have the last few Heisei films (Mechagodzilla, SpaceGodzilla and Destoroyah) with the Rebirth of Mothra trilogy and most of the Millennium films.

Around the start of the year, they starting mixing in the Gamera films. It's been a few weeks since they showed up, but everything they have is also available on demand. The Gamera films look pretty good, much better than what Comet shows. Hadn't seen some of them in a very long time. Pluto is missing a few Showa Gamera films, though between the regular movies and MST3k episodes, all the Showa Gamera movies are represented.

Comparing it to Beast from 20,000 Fathoms is generous. lol.

I really need to look into Pluto TV.

Another thing about the Godzilla movies they have, in case that matters to you - most are subbed. The US version of the original is obviously in English. The original Mothra, GMK and Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla are dubbed. I think that's it, though I think Godzilla 2000 was also dubbed when it was in the rotation (was removed back in November when Fathom Events had it in theaters for a few days). Captain Gordon's lines in Final Wars are also in English.

Here, they had Godzilla 2000 for one day. One day that I was working.

I was off on Godzilla Day, November 3rd. But they showed it on a Sunday in which I had to work instead.

Whoops. I thought today was Presidents Day. It's not until Monday. And the anniversary of 1994's Presidents Day is February 21st.

At least now I can devote Sunday to a marathon if I choose.

I've located a 30 year old recording tape of a 1994 Godzilla marathon. I have Godzilla vs Monster Zero, Godzilla's Revenge, and Terror of Mechagodzilla recorded on it in extended play mode. I just tested it on a VCR that I bought from Goodwill a few years ago and it still works.

In a moment from now, I will be watching TNT bumpers and 90s commercials that I have not seen in over 25 years. A made-for-TV movie of the Cisco Kid, a local used car lot (that is still in business), and a commercial for the 1994 Winter Olympics will be in my near future.

I regret that I don't have a means of making a digital copy of this tape. Obviously, I couldn't share Toho-owned movies over the internet, but I would like to upload some of the commercials for archival purposes or whatever. Those rarely get taken down.

I own all three movies on DVD. (Plus they're on Max.) This is just the nostalgia of the 90s TV experience for me.

Two commercial breaks so far. There's a lot of 90s cheese. I'm a little saddened that the dogs and cats from these commercials have all passed on. There's a chance the parrot (parakeet?) from the cat food commercial is still alive. Some of those birds last for several decades.

There was also an ad for a product called Citrus Miracle (approximately $40 in today's money) which promised it could clean everything from dirty dishes to paint used to vandalize a car. Something tells me there's a reason that product isn't for sale in the era of online reviews.

TNT also advertised a "Super Musical Sunday" for those experiencing football fatigue. Then they said that a Super Musical beats any super *whistling noise*. I never caught that as a kid. As an adult, it's immediately obvious that Big Game syndrome was in full effect back in 1994. They couldn't say Superbowl, so they whistled instead.

Indeed do not. Watch the other Godzilla anime series on there, Singular Point, instead, though that one has its own problems.
